"ditto - everyone goes yuck at first and then you try on a friends'"

I am unconvinced that this happens with Mooncups

chocolateface · 18/04/2007 21:39

OMG some people must be having really heavy periods!

scatterbrain · 18/04/2007 21:39

No - with Crocs - not with mooncups obv !!!

Dinosaur · 18/04/2007 21:40

F7Z, that is a scary statistic, because it proves that my periods are far heavier than average...

Hathor · 18/04/2007 21:41

What is the 'average' volume of blood lost?

OP posts:
lackofgravitas · 18/04/2007 21:42

Crocs (2 pair)
Mooncup (1)
And shaved legs, Sobernow!
Shaved legs that looked like they've been blinkin' creosoted thanks to buying wrong shade of Holiday Skin and using it nonetheless.

Spidermama · 18/04/2007 21:43

Mooncup 2, crocs 0.

Spidermama · 18/04/2007 21:43

... and waxed legs.

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 21:46

I believe more than 80ml is classed as heavy

I think you have to remember that an average can be rather misleading when such a variable thing is being measured, though

chocolateface · 18/04/2007 21:47

I wonder when and where the research was done.

nallydoolally · 18/04/2007 21:49

can someone post a link to a nice pic of crocs for me...?

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 21:49

Ok am googling and finding 37 ml is the average for entire period?

I am getting confused now, I am sure the Mooncup holds 30 ml and that they said somewhere it was almost a third of the entire loss

I have a pretty light period (IMO) and I am sure I fill more than a Mooncup's worth

how odd

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 21:50

From Mooncup website:

The Mooncup will hold 30ml of fluid, which is roughly one third of the average total produced each period.

also from website:

It holds 30mls of menstrual blood, approximately 3 times more than a tampon or sanitary towel.

This means you will need to attend to your mooncup less often than when wearing conventional sanitary protection.

Textbooks describe 80mls+ produced over the whole cycle as a heavy period.

???

Dinosaur · 18/04/2007 21:52

Thanks Franny.

I did suspect even pre-Mooncup that my periods were abnormally heavy so this might even motivate me to do something about it!

But I still rate Mooncups, even if mine is a bit overworked!

Hathor · 18/04/2007 21:52

Do you think mooncups should be bigger then?
More like crocs but without the holes?
Can you do some research about actual amounts lost. Would be interesting no?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 21:55

Well everywhere else on the web says 37 mls or thereabouts is the average

with 10 - 80 being normal

Sorry to hear of your problems Dino

Dinosaur · 18/04/2007 21:56

Thanks Franny. Not really a problem but just more one of those things that you think, well, one day when I have time...I really should do something about that!

Klaw · 18/04/2007 21:57

I don't have Crocs but I'm a fan of Mooncup

Wouldn't contemplate non-applicator Tampons before but adore my Mooncup!

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 21:59

Oh yes do Dino

we will nag you, shall we?

Dinosaur · 18/04/2007 22:00

Thanks but...

Not until I get quite a few of DS3's appointments out of the way first.

There are only so many medical appointments flesh and blood can stand1!

chocolateface · 18/04/2007 22:01

I'm not sure I want a mooncup, as I'd have to get size large, and I'm not large anywhere else, except my fanjo!

FrannyandZooey · 18/04/2007 22:02

Chocolateface

I have sold Mooncups to many, many MNers

I know everyone's fanjo size and TRUST ME you are not alone

NannyL · 18/04/2007 22:13

i have a mooncup.... and crocs are on order!

gess · 18/04/2007 22:16

Me, 2 pairs of crocs (had my first pair before the first mumsnet thread on them- officially I am a trendsetter), and I have a mooncup, but I haven't used it much since having ds3 (now 2). Used to use it before getting pregnant with him.

chocolateface · 18/04/2007 22:17

In an emergency could you use a bottle teat instead of a mooncup?
