DTDs have to fill an empty treat-size smarties box with as many different items as possible.

First Q - do I send them with identical boxes - there is a prize and I woudl like them to have the best chance (by assisting) but feel I can't give one more ideas as the other IYSWIM.

Q 2 - what to go in it. Ideas I have so far...

  1. Raid my sewing box - I have wedding style pearl beads & crystals of various styles, buttons, press studs, short length of ribbon &/or cotton...anything else I can find
  2. Raid DPs tool box - nails, screws, bolts, washers, a fuse maybe, short piece of wire......anything else I can find
  3. Pollypocket shoe
  4. Raid the kitchen. Not sure I would get away with grains of salt/sugar etc. as the items have to be counted but probably do rice, cornflake (I might even by baby pasta )
  5. Staple
  6. Paperclip
  7. Raid teh craft box, sequins, googly eyes...
  8. small pea shingle pebble

I think there will still be space - any other ideas?

Hama beads - had forgotten that one,,,

They are only in Yr1 so I think help will be expected. TBH I think I will let them raid the sewing/tool boxes on there own (but supervised obviously).....

Do you ever think that your competitive parenting style is hampering your children's initiative?
Or are you just desparate to get the prize?

Hathor · 17/04/2007 23:06

And you do realize that half the things will be disallowed on health and safety grounds?

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 23:09

Actually DTDs came up with the idea for the bridal pearsls & crystal type things (as we were using them at the weekend)...so they wil naturally find other things in my sewing box whilst they are there.
They also thought of a 'screw' so again they will find other things in the tool box
Theyn also thought of staple & paperclip

For the other stuff I will steer them towards the ideas if I need to. I shalln't just hand them the filled boxes...

Oh, that is OK then carry on. How about raiding the kitchen store cupboard - yeast grain, cous cous, dried grains, cereal, how about flour grains - - could fit hundreds of those in.
Hope they win!

Struggling here - have raided tool box, stationary draw and sewing box and still only half full.

We will leave the food until the weekend...but DTD1 spotted the peppercorns...

Oh and DTD1 wants to take some "dead creatures" - imaginitive, but not sure I should allow that one

They won with 78 items each.

They found or had the idea of over 70 of them themselves in the end. I did put a few objects to be 'tripped over' en route to others they planned to look for. They missed a few of my traps and I was even good enough to keep my mouth shut when they missed something.

Thanks for your suggestions I used some of them for my 'planted objects'
