DTDs have to fill an empty treat-size smarties box with as many different items as possible.

First Q - do I send them with identical boxes - there is a prize and I woudl like them to have the best chance (by assisting) but feel I can't give one more ideas as the other IYSWIM.

Q 2 - what to go in it. Ideas I have so far...

  1. Raid my sewing box - I have wedding style pearl beads & crystals of various styles, buttons, press studs, short length of ribbon &/or cotton...anything else I can find
  2. Raid DPs tool box - nails, screws, bolts, washers, a fuse maybe, short piece of wire......anything else I can find
  3. Pollypocket shoe
  4. Raid the kitchen. Not sure I would get away with grains of salt/sugar etc. as the items have to be counted but probably do rice, cornflake (I might even by baby pasta )
  5. Staple
  6. Paperclip
  7. Raid teh craft box, sequins, googly eyes...
  8. small pea shingle pebble

I think there will still be space - any other ideas?

leaf, something invisible(worth a try!)

Do you have to list what is in it?

I remember doing this as a chold and loving it(can't you tell!)

Surfermum · 17/04/2007 22:39

Some people just won't be helped.

RustyBear · 17/04/2007 22:40

Ring reinforcer
pencil lead
pin
needle
and of course a lentil

Surfermum · 17/04/2007 22:40

A staple

funnypeculiar · 17/04/2007 22:41

bit of dental floss
bit of cotton wool
eyelash
dog/cat hair
toothbrush filiment (is that the right word?)

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 22:42

I thinking of listing hte things - I could prob get away with grains of sand/salt/sugar/coffee as they won't 'disappear' when it is opened for formal counting. The hair and cotton might be at risk of being lost too.

I was worried about teh safety of pins & needles (might do safety pin tho)

They have to say how many things are in it. I assume if they count any it will only be the one that claims to have teh most - to ensure they havn't lied.

A money bag

Old bus ticket or receipt

A pen from a betting shop or Argos

Teesy weensy screwdrivers that you get in crackers

Do they have to be loose or can you stick them on the inside? If so:

What about one of those ring things you stick on paper to stop the holes breaking.

Bit of sellotape

One of those sticky things you put on pages so you can find them again

Can you tell I'm rifling through my desk drawer?

funnypeculiar · 17/04/2007 22:46

attache all the little things to a peice of sellotape/sandwitch them in cellotape - adds anyother thing
demerara sugar has big grains

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 22:47

TY Stargate - I don't have all of them, but there are certainly some new ideas on there. Will gather up as many as we can tomorrow (leaving teh perishable/rottable things until Sunday night). Will let you know how we got on...

...any more ideas still welcome...

Glad it isn't a smarties tube, the teachers will be all night checking the results.
What is the prize?

serenity · 17/04/2007 22:49

Fold a small piece of sellotape and stick all the tiny things between it, that way hair/eyelash/sand/coffee/etc won't get lost and will be easy to count.

any teeth lying about?

stargate · 17/04/2007 22:50

he's still thinking........

picture hook
thimble (dh seems to think you could pack it with other things!)

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 22:50

Don't know.

A 'small' prize.

I (Sorry DTDs of course ) just want to proove I can do it.

If you fill it with one thing grains or the tiny tiny beads I have would be perfect...

OP posts:
serenity · 17/04/2007 22:50

SlightlyMadSecret · 17/04/2007 22:51

prufrock · 17/04/2007 22:51

Nail clipping?
Artifical sweetener tablet
Plastic tag that attaches labels to clothes

sammac · 17/04/2007 22:51

dirt from the garden, pollen, stamen from lily, some germs! a freckle(kid on one don't go scraping faces!)

seeker · 17/04/2007 22:52

What a brilliant idea - but should you be helping them? Especially if there's a prize? Am I being too goody goody two shoes to be true? And if you do help, wouldn't it look a bit suspicious if they have identical boxes?

Different sorts of beans, a chick pea, a sequin, an apple pip, a cat's whisker, a feather, a bead from a bean bag,the piece of paper that's left when you punch a hole, a tiny peice of soap, a smartie (if there are any left) a tiny shell, a flake of porage oats, a fairy light bulb.

All my ideas are for whichever twin's got fewer things in her box!

Surfermum · 17/04/2007 22:52

Hama bead

Piece from Battleships (or any board game)
