This more for people who had a big white dress. I know in the long run its not terribly important really but I am interested in some things so...

What did it look like? Picture?
Was it was you expected to chose?
How did you know it was 'the one'?
On your day did you feel perfect in it, do you think it was the right choice?
Did you feel uncomfortable in it during the day, eg if it was laced up did you feel restricted?
If it had beading on the bodice did it rub on your arms?
If it had a big train was that a pain to walk around with? Did you bustle it up in the evening - did it stay?
Did it feel very heavy?
Did you wear a veil? When did you take it off?

I wore my Grandma's triple string of pearls and it was perfect (IMO of course)

I just did, the second I put it on

On your day did you feel perfect in it, do you think it was the right choice?
yes and yes

Did you feel uncomfortable in it during the day, eg if it was laced up did you feel restricted?

What did it look like?
like a princess dress (elegant tho') - can do a link if you wantPicture?
Was it was you expected to chose?
yes and no!
How did you know it was 'the one'?
it suited my personality
On your day did you feel perfect in it, do you think it was the right choice?
i felt the most beautiful i have ever felt!
Did you feel uncomfortable in it during the day, eg if it was laced up did you feel restricted?
I had it made in silk so it was very light to wear - the bodice was boned but very comfortable as it was made to measure
If it had beading on the bodice did it rub on your arms?
beading on the top of the bodice ... no it didn't rub (swarowski crystal)
If it had a big train was that a pain to walk around with? Did you bustle it up in the evening - did it stay?
Had a long (ish) train - yes i bustled it up and there is stayed all night
Did it feel very heavy?
no - but then it was silk
Did you wear a veil? When did you take it off?
full length veil - didn;t take it off! thought i was only going to wear one once so i wanted to wear it all night

munz · 15/04/2007 19:23

bit like this one

edam · 15/04/2007 19:24

It was lovely, very flattering, got compliments even from my boss who was well-known for detesting wedding dresses.

No, fell in love with something quite different at first, but that one was out of my league (cost £2k)!

When I put it on I felt like a princess. You just 'know' when you find the right dress.

Yes, felt perfect.

No, not uncomfortable at all.

No beading anywhere near my arms and only a small train made out of chiffon (flowed from a sort of belt thingy down my skirt).

No, not heavy - silk dupion which you might think is a heavy fabric but no, was fine.

No veil. But traditionally you take it off when the vicar says 'you may now kiss the bride', I think. Or after the 'I now proclaim you...' bit.

this is mine
\link{http://www.amandawyatt.com/bridal.html}
Page 21 , style called Dolly

Mine was great for me as it was a short fifties length and I tried on loads of full length dresses and just felt ridiculous.

When I tried this one on I felt like a bride but still felt like me IYKWIM. I am glad I didn't choose a fuller dress as incidentally, I got married in the middle of the heatwave last July and I was roasting in the dress (just glad I didn't have to wear a tailcoat

As it was so hot, i actually got changed into shorts and a sparkly top for the rest of the day which was a bit sad but much more practical.

I did get to wear mine again thougha few days later as we had a huge wedding celebration party. I found the dress perfectly comfortable the second time and great for dancing

gemmiegoatlegs · 15/04/2007 19:30

Gosh thats a big bouquet!!

MrsBadger · 15/04/2007 19:37

have just found the 'dress trying diary' of pics and comments I did for my gran (who was ill and couldn't shop with us) and see that I said the dress I ended up with 'made me feel like minor European royalty', by which I think I meant elegant, chic and understated but still like a princess.

(cringeworthy I knwo)

Skyler · 15/04/2007 19:38

Lol. I held is hanging downwards as I walked down the aisle.

Smurfgirl · 15/04/2007 19:40

Smurfgirl

What did it look like - Ivory, fitted bodice with claret embroidery on it with a mid length train. based on a medival type dress.

Was it was you expected to chose - Yes i had seen a picture in a mag.

How did you know it was - it was the only dress i tried on (mum was pleased i'm not a good shopper) it felt right.

On your day did you feel perfect in it, do you think it was the right choice - yes i was the dress i wanted and the theme i wanted.

Did you feel uncomfortable in it during the day, eg if it was laced up did you feel restricted - no

If it had beading on the bodice did it rub on your arms - no beading

If it had a big train was that a pain to walk around with - train was sort of mid length no it didn't get in the way

Did you bustle it up in the evening - yes had a button that attached to the buttons at the back of dress.

Did it feel very heavy - no although i did change into my jeans at 10pm (not a dress person)

Did you wear a veil - no

gemmiegoatlegs · 15/04/2007 19:50

i actually got married up in Gretna Green with 20 nearest and dearest. We have massive families so couldn't afford the big catholic shebang - we didn't want to go abroad as some of our family wouldn't be able to afford to come out. We had a huge party when we got back in the function room of the David Lloyd tennis club in Stockton. Where are you getting married?

Taylormama · 15/04/2007 19:52

smurf girl - you have beautiful taste... love the first hairstyle with the flowers in - will be nice if you take your veil off

Skyler · 15/04/2007 19:58

Smurfgirl - That all looks gorgeous, very tasteful and classy. Good luck with all the planning. I loved it, but wouldn't want to do it again.

Smurfgirl · 15/04/2007 19:59

Gemmie - in the Catholic Church in Yarm (where I am from) and reception at Headlam Hall

I really like these dresses.

Mine was simple, straight and white, with matching Doc Martens that I pained white for the occasion but then they stuck together and I got newspaper glued to the bottom of them. Still it all added to the occasion.

Macdog · 15/04/2007 20:01

This is my dress here .
It was absolutely perfect for me.
It was incredibly comfortable, and we had a ceilidh band so I was dancing all night.
It was very lightweight and easy to wear.
It had a chapel length train which was bustled at night.
I took my veil off after the photos, mainly cos my SIL stood on it and I couldn't be bothered to reattach it

Macdog · 15/04/2007 20:03

(should add, it didn't look like that on me)

gemmiegoatlegs · 15/04/2007 20:11

ooh your venue is lovely smurfgirl, I bet the photos will be fantastic!

cece · 15/04/2007 23:08

Macdog, mine was a it like that too. Sleeves less flared and bodice cut higher - more empire line but pretty similar! I agree very comfy and easy to wear.
