Baby naming traumas

My friend has asked me to post this as her and her dp cant' agree on a name for their 2 week old baby boy.

Her dp is adamant that the baby be called -
Maximus Ronny Billy the Kid Powelly
or
Maximus Ronny Billy Bunny Powelly

My friend likes the name Max, and likes Ronny, is ok with Billy, but not Billy Bunny or Billy the Kid. Her dp has his heart set on it, he really really likes Billy the Kid, and Billy Bunny.

I said i'd ask the mumsnet jury - what combination works best / is least crazy?

Tell her to divorce her DH and call the child something he won't get bullied over.

custy · 11/04/2007 11:38

i agree tell her to remind her dp to think of the kid.

the poor kid will be stuck with this.

i think its tosser attitude.

pointydog · 11/04/2007 11:44

Tell us more about your friend's dp

Boco · 11/04/2007 11:47

We were just talking about the bullying at school potential - she says they'd have to keep it a secret!

I think my friend actually thought he was joking, but then he got quite upset when she said a definite no to billy the kid and billy bunny, and now feels like she should back down on one or the other.

Could anyone live with billy the kid or billy bunny as middle names?

She likes Ronny or Max for a first name, which i think are really nice.

Would dh like to be called billy bunny? If no, ow can he inflict it on his child? If yes, he should instruct everyone forthwith to refer to him only as billy bunny and see how long this astonishing piece of egomaniacl f*&ckwittery lasts for!

Friends dp is lovely, i know his taste in names is very 'unusual',but he's a very excited first time dad.

OP posts:
ceolas · 11/04/2007 11:48

can't be for real!

pointydog · 11/04/2007 11:49

no man would want to name his son billy bunny

custy · 11/04/2007 11:49

this is not mumsnet standard but quite frankly i would tell him to fuck off - if he wants to call him nacy the pink elephant at home - then he could. but the certicicate would simply say 'billy'

i cant see how or why your friend would pamper to this complete insane fuckwittedness

pointydog · 11/04/2007 11:49

ah - he's too excited then?

Boco · 11/04/2007 11:49

No really, it is.

OP posts:
custy · 11/04/2007 11:49

unusual?

hes a tosser

pointydog · 11/04/2007 11:50

so excited he sounds like he's crazy in the bean?

MrsBadger · 11/04/2007 11:50

I'd concede Billy if the DH is so set on it
but 'the Kid' or 'Bunny', not a chance.

In fact I'd ditch the Ronny too and go for

Maximus Billy Powelly

which is still outside my comfort zone tbh.

Boco · 11/04/2007 11:51

Maybe men get some kind of postnatal lunacy?

He says that bunny is an old norfolk name, and that he knows several bunnys. I've never heard of it, and i do agree with the no no no's.

Just giving my friend a bit more ammunition to tackle this with.

nailpolish · 11/04/2007 11:52

hes talking out of his arse

GooseyLoosey · 11/04/2007 11:53

He can leave it out of the formal name and call he son "billy bunny" as his own baby name for him if he really is serious about this (can't really believe I am giving a serious response though). Dh had some lovely names for ds when he was born - usually called him little bear - and it made eveyone smile. Clearly when ds is 15 dh will not do this and ds will not be ridiculed as a result - best solution for everyone I think!

custy · 11/04/2007 11:53

see if it were me - i'd be off the registry office on pretence of going to the co-op and register the kid as billy max

if he wants to call him wanda the golden fish indoors thats up to him

Boco · 11/04/2007 11:56

I totally agree about keeping them as pet names rather than having to have it on your passport, i was saying to her that billy bunny when you're 16 is going to make life more challenging than it needs to be.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 11:56

Is Powelly their surname?? They really shouldn't have any more ee ending names in there.

portonovo · 11/04/2007 11:56

Is this a joke?

The mind boggles.
