MN JURY - shall I say 'yes' or 'no'?

Ds1 is just 6. Obsessed with football.

This week my brothers took him to Old Trafford to see the youth team play in the semi final. He LOVED it - totally buzzing.

Now they want to take him to the final but it's kick off 7.30 and it's a Thursday night in term time.

What would you say?

I'd say no. Am probably a big mean old killjoy but it's very late for a 6 year old on a school night and you'll suffer for it when he's tired and obnoxious the next couple of days.

filthymindedvixen · 05/04/2007 22:12

aw bless, take him. he will probably be ok on the friday - iME, it's the day after the tiredness really kicks in - which will be a saturday!

But if he doesn'tgo, ther are plenty more opportunities, I'm sure.

NannyL · 05/04/2007 22:12

what time does he normally go to bed?

My 6 year old excharge is in bed at 7 and NO WAY would he 'make it'!

Dottydot · 05/04/2007 22:13

I'd probably say it was OK as long as the brothers wouldn't mind bringing him home if he was getting too tired - or even just going to see the first half if that would be feasible. Otherwise it's a very late night...

SquonkyDonkeyHotCrossBuns · 05/04/2007 22:14

Now the Mancunian part of me wants to make a comment about taking him to see City instead.... but honestly, let him go, it will be wonderful for him. The atmosphere will be fantastic and you may just be a part of giving him the gift of a hobby that he will keep for the rest of his life.

I still remember my dad taking me to my first evening football game and I was about that age.

princesscc · 05/04/2007 22:14

Its only once - let him go. Although judging by the fights in their match last night, make sure it is the youth one he is seeing, not the Champions League return match!

SimplySparkling · 05/04/2007 22:14

I'd say yes. It is a Thurs night and he might be dragging himself around on the Fri but can recover on the w/e. Hope he enjoys if he does go.

FrannyandZooey · 05/04/2007 22:14

If you think he will cope ok with staying up that late at the time - I mean, not get overwhelmed by it all while he is there

he can fall asleep in the car on the way home and have a lie in Saturday morning

southeastastra · 05/04/2007 22:15

yes of course!

princesscc · 05/04/2007 22:15

Hmm - not a cheap hobby anymore! I used to go to Arsenal every Saturday for a fiver, the cheapest tickets are about £35 these days!

macwoozy · 05/04/2007 22:17

Yes let him go, he might well be tired the next day but it's a one off and he'll love it.

MrsGumby · 05/04/2007 22:18

Another City fan here, but you've got to let him go...he'll remember it forever!!!

lemonaid · 05/04/2007 22:28

If you think he'll be "overtired" rather than "in complete meltdown" then I'd let him go.

Gobbledigook · 05/04/2007 22:32

Yes, I was thinking it's only the Friday he has to get through at school. Tbh, he went on Monday night, was in bed late but was fine the next day.

He normally goes to bed around 7.15 but he's never actually asleep before 8.30 and never lies in. I don't actually think he'd be that tired.

Brothers would bring him away early if they felt it was the best thing to do. They left before the end on Monday.

It's def a youth game - I'd be too worried about fights to let him go to a premiership one! Although one brother is a police officer and neither of them are small so I know they'd look after him.

Apparently it's only £2 a ticket for kids at youth games!

God, I wouldn't, but then I hate football and couldn't stand the thought of it becoming a major topic of conversation in my home for the next 12 years. Isn't there a nice embroidery circle he could join?

LittleEasterLapin · 05/04/2007 22:34

Let him go. He'll have fantastic memories of it. My DH has great memories of going to footie with his dad when he was little.

bozza · 05/04/2007 22:34

Given what you say and that it is a Thursday (so nearly end of week) I would say go for it. DS is same age and adores football, but I doubt he could cope. He really needs his sleep. Would be knackered if he wasn't asleep until 8.30 on a school night.

bozza · 05/04/2007 22:35

you wouldn't like it here then edam.

Gobbledigook · 05/04/2007 22:35

Too late for that Edam! He's already going on about how many corners, how many this than and the other there was in every game! We must have about 3 matches on sky+ he's not watched yet!

I would and have Took ds2 to see England play at St James Park when he was 6 (he's an Owen fan). He loved it, and fell asleep in the car coming home. Then went straight to bed. It's a one off and he'll always remember it.

Gobbledigook · 05/04/2007 22:42

Right, brother has just text me. Will tell him MN says yes. Eeek, my gut is saying 'NOOOOOO, It's a schoooool night!!'

IF itwas Mon, Tue or Wed I'd def say no. But he'll only have Friday to go...

OP posts:
PippiLangstrump · 05/04/2007 22:47

YES!!! it's only once, but only if you think he would make it.

princesscc · 05/04/2007 23:22

Lets face it, if he's that knackered the next day, you could always {pcc whispers - phone him in sick!}
