For me it would have to be the Mr Men books

and you?

winnie the pooh gets my vote and the words don't flow at all.

also agree about Rainbow Fairies, how can you tell the same story so many times? It's as predictable as Grand Designs.
thank god dd is reading them herself.

Love Roahl Dahl.

brimfull · 23/03/2007 20:43

boysboysboys-christ do you pay attention to them then...I just read the words until it stops!

controlfreakyfluffybunny · 23/03/2007 20:46

another vote here for thomas the wank
and another for mr men (wtf?)
and may i nominate topsy and frigging tim (were there ever children more smug and puke making)

OrmIrian · 23/03/2007 20:47

I like Beatrix Potter and Winnie the Pooh (original not Disney version). Also Mr Men - but then I missed out on them first time round.

Hate hate hate the Old Bear/Little Bear stories (they disappeared ..for a few years I beleive). I think I hated T the TE in the end but I've forgotten and I hid the book so well that DS#2 never found it I also detest blardy Roald Dahl - I know it's probably blasphemy but what the hell...I simply hate the stories. Horrid Henry isn't just horrid, he's a loathsome brat who should have been put down. Not too keen on the sainted Harry Potter either - too carefully manufactured for the movies IMO. And boarding schools aren't that lovely...

Anything else.....now let me see...

OrmIrian · 23/03/2007 20:48

Ah yes controlfreak...Topsy and Tim ....argghhhh!

MrsGumby · 23/03/2007 20:51

In our household, any pop-up or lift-the-flap books. After two weeks they're torn and ripped and chewed and encrusted with food and snot. What was once a pretty pop-up meadow scene looks like somewhere in Iraq.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 23/03/2007 20:51

angelina prima bloody ballerina

dingdongjustforyoufg · 23/03/2007 20:53

and all the other stupid ballerina books that MIL keeps buying

MorocconOil · 23/03/2007 20:55

Sobernow- Beatrix Potter books seem to be amongst few children's books that have survived several generations. I like my children enjoying books that my grandfather enjoyed. They are not racist, suppose they are a bit moralistic, but is that such a bad thing???

Mirage · 23/03/2007 20:55

mr men,without as doubt.

Dottydot · 23/03/2007 20:57

Curious Effing George... Stories are way too long, not funny and poor old George should never have been captured in the first place by the nasty man with the yellow hat...

stleger · 23/03/2007 20:57

Thomas the Tank (which my mother loved so feel guilty) and Animal Ark - kind vet thinks the animal is too ill, but super child and boyfriend nurse it through. We are looking forward to Topsy and Tim's New Lunchbox though (ds is 15, dd1 is 13 and dd2 is 10). It could be the dullest yet in our dull collection.

controlfreakyfluffybunny · 23/03/2007 20:58

how very dare you diss george. he is fantabulous. when ds2 learnt to read by himself he read the collected stories from cover to cover...... 6 times..... ahhhhhh

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 23/03/2007 21:05

I have to agree about Beatrix Potter I remember loving the books as a child so bought the whole damn set off ebay for dd but the language and themes are so old fashioned and badly written that i've had to hide them.

Postman pat books are also hard to read out loud and the pictures don't really match the story.

Boysboysboys · 23/03/2007 21:05

I like to immerse myself in books. I quite like Charlie and Lola, and anything quite short!

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 23/03/2007 21:06

OOh I love Charlie and LOla.

feetheart · 23/03/2007 21:17

OK, this looks like the way to go if I'm going to remain sane! Top tips to hothouse 4 year old DD so she can read Rainbow Fairies by herself

She's already worked out that the girls/fairies always win. However she wants to be a fairy when she's 'bigger' and I think she may be using the damn books as a training manual

RosaLuxembourg · 23/03/2007 21:24

My top ten most hated in no particular order
Rainbow sodding fairies
Topsy and Tim
We're going on a bearhunt
Noddy
Faraway Tree
Secret Seven
Lemony Snicket
Wait and see (not many people know this one but my DDs have all loved it and it is crapola)
Thomas the tank engine
Any picture book that is cynically marketed to tie in with a CBeebies programme

MorocconOil · 23/03/2007 21:26

Beatrix Potter books stand out as very different to any of the other books for that age group ,and the illustrations are more individual. I also think it is good to have some variety.

Ellbell · 23/03/2007 21:28

Oh yes, Topsy and Tim. Dreadful.

I do quite like Dr Seuss, except The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, because I refuse to say 'x, y and zee', but if you say 'x, y and zed' it doesn't rhyme and that annoys me!

stleger · 23/03/2007 21:29

I love the IDEA of Beatrix Potter, but I think only DD1 liked any of them. The are cute though!

Spidermama · 23/03/2007 21:31

Percy the boring old Park Keeper and his tedius 'adventures' with his dullard animal pals.

Actually I'm really sick of anthromorphic bollox be it Potter B, or any other bugger.
