I live in Wellingborough. I want to get my 10month old daughter's ears pierced. I can't find someone to do it. Where can I go and how much does it cost?

Leaving aside whether I think this is a good idea or not, Claire's Accessories (there's one in the Swansgate Centre in Wellingborough) will pierce ears of babies from 4mo provided they've had their jabs and you sign all the paperwork.

clumsymum · 20/03/2007 11:49

PLEASE tell me WHY you want to do something to your baby that will hurt.

I had mine done when I was 21, and it hurt having them done, then they were uncomfortable for the next couple of weeks while they healed.

I think it's cruel

collision · 20/03/2007 11:50

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

totaleclipse · 20/03/2007 11:51

I have a better sugesstion...........leave it for at least 10 years.

cathcart · 20/03/2007 11:52

Hi tasja, I'm with mrs badger, I used to do ear piercing myself - would strongly recommend that you use the cleaning solution provided by claire's over anything else and make sure you go back for your 6 - 8 wk check, especially as she is so young!

powder28 · 20/03/2007 12:00

Wouldnt a baby pull earrings out? I dont even wear earrings cos my niece once pulled out one of my hoops. Luckily it was a small one and it just came out without ripping my ear lobe.

tasja · 20/03/2007 12:09

No it is not a cultural thing. I had my ears pierced when I was 6 months old and I want to do the same with my baby. I know there is alot of debate going on about piercing your child's ears. But she is my little darling baby and I know I was glad my mom did it when I was still very young and I know my daughter will be too.

well i htink you are mad as a hatter

(with holes)

tasja · 20/03/2007 12:13

Thank you MrsBadger. Do you know how much they charge? My friend's daughter had her ears pierced (she is 16). They charged her 35pound! I think it is a bit to much. I'm from South Africa and there they charge about R30 - about 3pounds.

I wish you wouldn't do it to your dd

Kbear · 20/03/2007 12:14

If you can't find someone to do it, doesn't that tell you something?

Sorry, I'm am not usually particulary judgmental about other people's choices but I can't see how you can make a baby more beautiful that she already is by sticking earrings in.

tasja · 20/03/2007 12:14

what is a hatter?

CODalmighty · 20/03/2007 12:15

its a phrase
dont do the ears dont do it

princesscc · 20/03/2007 12:16

I told my dd (yr 6) that she could have her ears pierced when she left junior school. She went on about it for a while when she was about 7 or 8 because everyone else had had their done and she felt left out. I stood firm and said no, not until.. Well, she is now just 3 months away from having them done and guess what? She's decided she's too young and it will hurt too much! (My work here is done...)

clumsymum · 20/03/2007 12:16

well Tasja I hope you feel just as glad when your little girl is sobbing her heart out in your arms because her ears hurt.

God it was bad enough taking ds for jabs, which were necessary. This is just bl%%dy vanity.

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 12:17

my mum wouldn't let me have mine done till I was 17 and could decide myself

decided not to

just cos you want pierced ears doesn't mean she will

you can't decide to put holes in a kid's body before they can make a choice

tasja · 20/03/2007 12:18

sorry for all of you that doesn't want me to do it. I'm going to - maybe here or in SA. depending on the cost over here. I'll keep you updated on when I'm going to do it. We're going to SA in November and December so I'll let you know by then how it went. And the thread is not about wrong or wright about ear piercing.

WaynettaSlob · 20/03/2007 12:18

tasja - are you not worried that she might try and yank them out, hurting herself in the process?

it will be about £35 if you want a decent pair of quality earrings that won;t bring your dd out in a nasty rash. if you're hoping to pay as little as £3 then you may as well use a skewer and do it yourself.

Tasja,

Look unless you LIKE being in an argument don't bother updating us on when you get it done, or how it went.

Even if it went fantastically well and the little mite smiled all the way through (unlikely) we still would not approve.
