Making Tea (Yes I'm bored - possibly ungrateful cow as well)

When making tea in a cup, with a tea bag, does anyone on here put the milk in first?

ARRGGHH. I'm such an ingrate, but when people offer me tea at work (very kind of them), I sit here looking at it half the time, wondering how to get rid of the vile, milk first, then teabag, then water muck that they bring back.

The tea just doesn't infuse properly. It's vile. Like hot milky water coloured slightly like tea.

Is it just me? I happen to put the milk in second, even when I make a pot, but milk in first when making tea from the bag? Surely this is madness???

HappyDaddy · 19/03/2007 16:29

No, np I don't. Currently working locally but looking to work back in the City.

Why? Do you keep thinking you've seen me?

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:30

youve put me off now

princessmel · 19/03/2007 16:30

Pour water on to tea bag, squeeze with back of spoon , add milk.
I hate it too milky and made with full fat milk, semi skimmed only.

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:30

fio told me you work in a bank

HappyDaddy · 19/03/2007 16:30

So how much milk do you ladies have?

When I make it for my mum, she always says one of these two gems:

"Are the cows on strike?" If it's too strong.

"Ooh, it's a bit fortnight"!! Too weak.

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:31

MEL wahs your mouth out

tea should be make ina pot

twelveyeargap · 19/03/2007 16:31

I work in a bank. Ain't no beautiful people here... The traders do know I prefer Assam though, so I'm with you on that one Peachy.

I have moved seats, however. Need to train my new neighbours in the ways of the TYG tea preferences.

It's not all bad at the bank - I'm a desk assistant and I have the people I work for getting me tea. Shouldn't complain, really!

Assam tea is the best and must be made the second the kettle boils.

Redbush or jasmine tea is quite nice too.

I used to have a lovely little brown teapot which used to belong to my grandmother - some idiot flat mate of mine broke it

HappyDaddy · 19/03/2007 16:32

Fio did? Don't remember telling her that. DW works in a bank, hopefully I will too soon.

How you doing, np? Have a cup of tea and tell me.

I CATed you the other day, sorry it was unprovoked. Just wanted to say hi, instead of hijacking a thread.

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:33

i emailed back

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:33

fio and i were gossiping about you

GRUMPYGIRL · 19/03/2007 16:34

Totally foul...tea should be brewed in WATER ONLY for 3 minutes... the milk, water & teabag brew is truly foul and does not resemble a cup of tea. I ALWAYS know when DH has done it that way even if he denies it.

I have got to the point now where I drink coffee when I go to other peoples houses.

No doubt someone will be along soon to tell us how sad we are!

peanutbutterkid · 19/03/2007 16:34

12-Y-G : have you actually told your officemates that you only the tea if it's made a certain way? Do you expect them to read your mind -- how are they supposed to know if you haven't ever told them? Nothing wrong with them liking tea they way they like it, even if it's not how you like it.

HappyDaddy · 19/03/2007 16:35

Gossiping about me? Oh no, I dread to think what you were saying.

I'll check email when I get home.

Mercy · 19/03/2007 16:36

princessmel, you should try tea made with yak's milk.

It's just foul, it leaves a kind of greasy coating in your mouth.

nailpolish · 19/03/2007 16:36

she says she lives near you and you work in a bank! shes prob making it all up

twelveyeargap · 19/03/2007 16:37

I just forget that some people make tea that way, that's all. Previous neighbours were fully informed of my preferences.

Like I said, I'm just bored and wondering WHY people make tea that way. And I genuinely am grateful for having colleagues who offer tea.

I remember my Granddad barking at a child in the house for doing it and I always jsut assumed that EVERYONE did milk second when making tea in the cup.

I didn't think many mners did live near me. Cadbury does but I can't remember where Fio lives. Maybe she wants to be my stalker.
