Knitting patterns for babies/children

Can anyone recommend good books of knitting patterns, for babies and small children?

I have Debbie Bliss' 'Baby Knits' book and the patterns are mainly for baby girls, plus by her referring to her own brand of wool, it makes it quite difficult to substitute.

I have a two-year old boy, a five-year-old girl and expecting (probably) DS2. Would love to get some cosy baby knits ready for October and I love knitting (cardies, sweaters etc, rather than booties).

So if any of you can point me in the direction of some good books or websites it would be great.

Thanks to you ladies I am hooked to bamboo needles. I got some last week and they are soooo much nicer to use than metal. Methinks I shall have to replace all my sizes with bamboo.

I am still searching for cool patterns for a 2-year-old boy - love the star sweater by Zoe Mellor but can't justify buying hte book for one pattern. I would like to make a cardigan for him too. Any ideas? Stripes are good but nothing too fancy.

In the meantime I have been kntting baby cardies with Debbie Bliss' baby cashmerino and it is really yummy. Would like to knit myself something in it as it has such a lovely feel to it!!

I seem to have entered the twilight zone- loads of posts on here are claiming they were made yesterday when I know they were several days ago, so I'm probably late. Marina, you're right, I'm in Edinburgh and the local shop is here . Did you have a nice time, or haven't you been yet? They don't sell birchwood needles though, I get them either from the US (yup, that's how sad I am) or from Scottish Fibres .

Miffy2, I don't know if this is any good, but there is a great book by Ann Budd which gives patterns for all sorts of basic cardigans and jumpers and so on in every imaginable size. It's here . When I get around to doing the Zoe Mellor-type jumper for dd I am going to use the basic pattern from there and adapt it. It's a good buy in that sense because it's useful for all sorts. I'll keep an eye out meanwhile.

I am currently knitting the Rogue Hoodie which is the hardest thing I've ever knitted but which will be fab, I do hope

tamum, that shop looks gorgeous! I'm doing the zoe mellor fairy dress thing, from her book, the one with a knitted vest type top, ribbons to tie over the shoulders & a netting skirt in petal shapes. nearly finished the front top so will let you know how it turns out.

That sounds gorgeous, bundle! I will have to have another look at that book. I just wish designers didn't stop at such small sizes so often. I keep waiting for the real Miss Bea to grow up a bit so we can get bigger sizes, but I guess she's always going to be a couple of years younger than my dd

ikwym. the dress goes up to 4/5 and has some tips on adapting sizes in the front, but my brain scrambles at the very thought..

Thanks for that tamum, I will add the book to my wish list. You are right, the important thing is having the basic patterns and adding the lovely designs to them!
