Please help. DH applied for police force, passed all stages but failed final drug test. He has never taken drugs.

Title explains it all really. DH was accepted into the police force, just had to have a drugs test as routine and has received a letter today saying he failed and they will no longer accept him. He cannot get in touch with anybody about it.

Believe me, he does not take drugs. He's a tee-total non-smoker and has never taken anything. There is no way.

It was a hair test, he was wearing hair gel and had probably taken paracetamol or nurofen in the month previous to being tested.

Any ideas?

What do we do?

I know we need to find out what he tested positive for, but this can't be happening and he is panicking/upset/devastated.

I didn't say it was accurate!

Look after yourself SOH, I'm sure it'll sort itself out if your dh is insistent on another test.

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:07

Thanks wannabe. We seem to be on a real run of bad luck, it has to get better some time soon.

As far as I can tell hair tests are accurate in that if you're taking an illegal substance it will be found in your hair. They are also inaccurate as they can have high levels of false positives. You can't fool them if you are using, but they can condemn you if you aren't.

He is willing to pay for repeat blood and urine (and hair if necessary) tests every week for as long as it takes. This is not him.

SOH, talk about a very bad day
I hope you can get Norfolk Constabulary to accept an appeal from your dh, or at least have the courtesy to discuss their findings with him.
And I really do hope you are OK. What a horrible shock. I trust the cyclist stopped to help you.

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:07

Thank you everybody.

I need some air. Stuck at work and trying not to sob into my keyboard.

The cyclist stopped long enough to pick his bike up.

OP posts:
Marina · 07/03/2007 16:08

piece of work.
Bet your colleagues are being nice to you though

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:09

'pick up his bike'. I'm losing the plot. Please excuse bad syntax Marina.

The Librarian Police will hunt me down.

Marina · 07/03/2007 16:10

There will be a piece about you in Laura Swaffield. No excuse to let professional standards slip you know

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:10

Colleagues are all lovely, of course.

Chauffeured to hospital by them, made tea, tried forcing me to go home on several occasions.

But of course all librarians are lovely.

Oh yes, she'll be notifying CILIP's Crack Grammar Squad and formatting her column as I type...

They can try and berate me, I'm very pregnant I warn you...

We do Mother Hen stuff really well don't we
I don't think I know a single horrible librarian, although a lot of them are teacosy-wearing, chop-bone gnawing "eccentrics"

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:18

Great description. I know a librarian who seriously cannot believe anybody
would rather read the book if a film version has been made. I am yet to see his professional qualifications and fear he may be a fraud.

SOH! Mate!- just seen this amd am horrified, shocked and concerned for you. Sadly, though I am empathising like buggery for you, I have no advice or wisdom.....
please keep us updated as I am keeping everything crossed for your dh and 'twill become rather inconvenient and uncomfortable for me after a week or so....

Greensleeves · 07/03/2007 16:19

I know a horrible librarian. Susan Burdell in the History Faculty in Oxford. I've got steam pouring out of my ears just thinking about her.

Marina · 07/03/2007 16:20

Definitely ask to see his credentials, he sounds very dodgy to me.
And then sort out dh before FMV's extremities start dropping off...

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:20

Thanks m'lovely. Can't get used to that name on you.

Jump up and down like that.

Go on.

Is there any way I can start today again?

Greensleeves · 07/03/2007 16:20

Sorry SOH, that was horribly inappropriate of me on your thread

I am sorry about what's happened too, it must be awful, especially having an accident on top of it all as well. I hope it gets sorted out soon.

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:22

Greeny, she's a rare specimen I assure you.

Me an' Marina know people on the inside if you need a wrong righted?

Don't apologise either. No offence taken.

I can chuck a cold compress hopefully in your general direction, but combination of sprained shoulder and big bump prevents me from assisting at ground level. I may blacken your eye a bit with enthusiastic throwing, but my sole intention is to care for you.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 07/03/2007 16:41

Now that sounds more like you SOH.

Is there really more than one librarian on here, I'm now really scared.
