Easter Gift Ideas (Alternatives to Choc. Eggs!)

I'm looking for inspiration for gifts for Easter for the kids. I cannot bear another year of too many overpriced, over packaged Chocolate eggs...that they get way to many of anyway.

I have thought about making chocolate nests with shredded wheat...and mini eggs in...so they do get some chocolate treat...but would like to give them/make them (I'm not too good at crafty stuff I hasten to add!)something a bit different.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received

Well for us it is because close cousins get quite a few choc eggs each from other relatives, and my dd has no grandparents. My siblings and I have decided against getting for each other's kids because of sheer numbers. Don't want dd to feel left out, hence I buy things for her as I am the only one who will.

Though I may well encourage a going out treat as an option as she gets older, bowling, cinema, something like that

Easter, um, tree thingy:
Get some twigs, bung them in a pot and decorate with easter treats - baskets made from egg carton with pipe cleaner handles, a few mini eggs bundled in clingfilm tied with yellow ribbon etc etc.

i always get my two a present rather than an egg-they still have selection boxes left from xmas, they got so much.

this year i've bought them a figure each-ds a wrestling figure,dd a disney princess figure.i'd rather spend a fiver on something they can keep and play with than chocolate.

last year they got a gameboy game each.

what about a bear from the bear factory?

ludaloo... sorry i've taken so long to get bak to you... i firgit i was on this thread and haven't been checking up!!!! anyway! my g'bread recipe!!!

here's the recipe... the only thing is that the mixture is incredibley sticky once you've mixed it all up so you have to stick it in the fridge for at least 45 mins... when it does come out of the fridge it is incredibley hard but once you start squishing it about... it get much more managable!.... work quick or it will start to 'melt' again!

also this amount makes a huge wodge... so you can store any that you don't want to bake straight away in an airtight container i the fridge... and it will keep for a while... i once made up the mixture and then didn;t get the chance to bake them and left the mixture for a week in the fridge and when i did get round to baking it .. theyw ere fine!!!

good luck!

Ginger Bread Biscuits

Ingredients
450g plain flour
2 tsp Baking powder
3 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
a pinch cayenne pepper (i sometimes leave this out!)
a pinch of Salt
250g unsalted butter, diced
200g caster sugar
3 tbsp golden syrup
1 or 2 medium eggs, beaten

Method

  1. Sift the flour, baking powder, ginger , cinnamon , cayenne and salt into
a mixing bowl.
  1. Add in the butter and sugar and rub in until the butter is absorbed and
the mixture has a sandy texture.
  1. Mix in the syrup and enough of the beaten egg to make a fairly stiff,
smooth dough. Shape the dough into a ball and wrap in cling film. Place the dough in the fridge to firm up for at least 45 minutes.
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/gas 4.
  1. Roll out the dough to 3mm thickness. Cut out biscuits into desired
shapes.
  1. Place the ginger bread biscuits on greased, non-stick baking sheets.
  1. Bake the biscuits for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  1. Remove the biscuits from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheets.
  1. Decorate with biscuits with piped royal icing. Store in an airtight
container.

I know this thread is really old but thought this might help someone else who’s looking for an alternative Easter gift. I found a candle company on Etsy that make chocolate orange candles. They can personalise them for you too! www.etsy.com/uk/listing/970289042/personalised-easter-chocolate-orange-soy
