Easter Gift Ideas (Alternatives to Choc. Eggs!)

I'm looking for inspiration for gifts for Easter for the kids. I cannot bear another year of too many overpriced, over packaged Chocolate eggs...that they get way to many of anyway.

I have thought about making chocolate nests with shredded wheat...and mini eggs in...so they do get some chocolate treat...but would like to give them/make them (I'm not too good at crafty stuff I hasten to add!)something a bit different.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received

Whittards usually do nice Easter-themed mugs and things. Can't think of anything else, though!

How old are they? They're are some lovely easter books in Waterstones. My 2 year old loved Spot's first Easter last Easter.
Also you can get egg cup decorating kits or similar. ELC usually have a crafty bit of things kids can make for particular seasons.

A new book? A new spring skirt?
We always had a new outfit and a new skipping rope growing up ( never had new clothes so was a great treat!)

but we had a choc bunny as well

My mum used to get me and my brother the latest disney videos for easter growing up, instead of an egg. Have a huge collection now and can look fondly on it remembering each easter.

So maybe something you can add to year after year?

ludaloo · 07/03/2007 13:26

Thats a good idea too...I am thinking a DVD would go down well...I'd like to make something too...biscuits sound good, I've just ordered some easter shaped cookie cutters..

I can still remember my dad bringing home half a dozen eggs, they looked like normal eggs but were actually solid chocolate.I thought it was amazing and he was a magician or something.

I get my dd some chocolate but mostly other gifts, eg a small girly handbag (put some chocolate buttons in it). Also things like hair decorations, puzzle books, gel pens etc. I didn't want to have her stuffing herself with chocs all Easter holiday long, but also I object to the extortionate cost of the commercial stuff, all that packaging etc. When you look at it, we are paying a lot of money per 100g of chocoate just to get lots of coloured cardboard!

When I was a teenager my thoughtful godmother (who knew how I had battled to reduce my weight) bought me a fresh pineapple and a really pretty pair of knickers from M and S instead of a choc egg. I'd never had fresh pineapple before and really appreciated her careful choice.

ludaloo · 07/03/2007 14:12

Ahhh thats nice!

This is what I mean...They get more chocolate than they know what to do with, and its so expensive! Half of it gets chucked...or festers at the bottom of the fridge for weeks..

Why does everyone feel the need to give lots of gifts at Easter ?

We decorate some hard boiled eggs with crayons/food dye etc, then find a hill and have an egg rolling competition

or

have an Easter hunt. I colour/download pictures of bunnies/chicks/eggs/flowers, attatch wooden skewers and stick them in the ground just within sight of each other.(Very big garden/field useful, or do at a park) Use wooden pegs clipped on to point the way to the next clue. I hid a couple of mini eggs behind some (in nests made of dried grass), and the final one had a soft toy (£1 from Asda).

Dd really looks forward to these, and only gets actual Easter Eggs off relatives. I've never actually bought her one

deaconblue · 07/03/2007 15:54

I'm getting my nephews paint it yourself bird feeders from Harpers Bazaar ( I think that's teh name of the shop, but garden centres do them too)

deaconblue · 07/03/2007 15:55

cod, you know the name of the shop, you recommended it to me for Xmas stockings...

hana · 07/03/2007 18:00

where do all the choc eggs come from ?
no one gives any to my dds.....is it a [insert location] thing?
or are we not worthy?
haha
