I've just been to my local Morrisons and Sky have a stand down there and are offering free installation and a £20 Morrisons voucher on payment of your first bill. That makes initial outlay about £70 cheaper! I'm sure its not just my Morrisons, so you may want to 'think on!'
I also plan to ask for more discount if I recommend a friend - in for a penny in for a pound as they say!

yes agree bundles rae crap

Aloveheart · 05/03/2007 14:34

You're tied in with any package whether it's sky, virgin, talk talk.

My sis had no end of trouble with her sky+ box.

Aloveheart · 05/03/2007 14:34

having said that i do like sky tv

Enid · 05/03/2007 14:35

they will replace it if it is knackered

Aloveheart · 05/03/2007 14:36

Was a brand new box.

I do't have sky or virgin tv package.

I have freeview!!

charlieq · 05/03/2007 14:37

So whyyyy wouldn't they offer me a cheap package when I threatened to leave???

(Caligula and Stripey are you both out of the 1 year tie in period? that might be my problem)

Am seriously piqued and may eff off to Monopoly Murdoch after all.

twinklingstar · 05/03/2007 14:37

Read the small print of whatever you do. We have Sky multiroom and part of that deal is that the phone lines are connected to both digiboxes at all times (and they can check this remotely so know straightaway if it is left unplugged from the phone socket/s. Trouble is that then other family members can get Box office films etc as it is paid directly from your bank account and unless you check your statements very carefully, this can go unnoticed. When I totted up what we had spent on Sky subs in the past year, I nearly threw a fit. I have changed the pin code now so only I know it.

Just beware that you really know what you are getting into. I could happily live without Sky, it wasn't my choice to have it but then I'm not the only one here!

zippitippitoes · 05/03/2007 14:39

but you can have sky form sky broadband from a broadband specialist landline from bt mobile from mobile phone company ie pay for a proper service and then when and if you have a fight with them it's only a headache in one area of your life

I'm not keen on selling my soul to the devil

Ive been with NTL (now virgin) for ages, aving switched from Sky, DH is the biggest LOST fan ever, but the channels going hasnt made him want to leave Virgin and go to sky.

We get fantastic value for money, so many channels that we are now recording at least 1 programme every evening.

The V+ thing is great, and a lot friendlier than the Sky+ my SIL is on.

No issues here

wotzsaname · 05/03/2007 14:44

will we all be Virgin soon? I wounder if Mr B has it on Necker Island? He must own a few other islands by now though.

Caligula · 05/03/2007 14:55

But I don't get monkeys, I get 2mb broadband, BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, Channel 4, ITV, ITV2, E4, More 4, Film 4, Cbeebies, CBBC and a whole load of other channels of which I'm blissfully unaware and whose acquaintance I never need to make.

Caligula · 05/03/2007 14:56

And free local and national phone calls at any time, except for those 0845 numbers, and reduced rate mobile calls from my landline.

clumsymum · 05/03/2007 15:01

Why have we lost Discovery Kids? DS and I are Very disappointed, it had some interesting and educational progs on, none of those vile american cartoons.

Does Discovery belong to Sky?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/03/2007 15:08

I think Discovery have scrapped Discovery Kids on all providers.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/03/2007 15:10

I'm out of the 1year tie-in period, just rang them up and said I was thinking about leaving.

airy · 05/03/2007 15:10

Does the contract you took out with NTL or Cable or whoever it is that virgin have taken over not state what channels it is they are providing you for your sub? If it does are they not in brech of contract now, leaving those within their 12months with a get-out if they want it.
I don't have any of them, I used to be on sky who peed me off too much and I cancelled and now have freeview but my bro is on Cable now virgin and is still within his 12 months, he called them and said he was leaving because they're not providing the service his contract says they're supposed to, so they have given him all channels except premiums and reduced his sub to keep him

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/03/2007 15:14

If you want to complain to Discovery about taking Kids off air;

[email protected]

email at above address.

clumsymum · 05/03/2007 15:20

Thanks for that.

Tonight's little task then

BandofMothers · 05/03/2007 15:23

I heard that, yes, they have broken contract so you can get out of it, but it was not from the horses mouth so best to check.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/03/2007 15:41

Very interesting.

Have to say, from what I heard - sky were trying to double the price for virgin.

This may backfire on sky because virgin own all the UKtv and Living channels.

DominiConnor · 05/03/2007 15:51

Murdoch is far from a monopoly.
There's the BBC, ITV and of course the Internet.
The Sky/Virgin thingh was a clash of two big egos trying to shaft each other.
Sky wanted to increase the set of channels you must take in order to get the ones you want.
NTL/Virgin have been doing this for years.

Sky wanted to increase what they charge, which is what NTL/Virgin have been doing.

NTL do have vastly better broadband (if you're in the right area), but Sky have better set top boxes and Sky+

princesscc · 05/03/2007 15:52

I wish I'd never mentioned it now! [sticks tongue out to all] You only had to say 'no, I'm not interested' and my thread could have just died a peaceful death all by itself and no-one would be any the wiser! Knickers to the lot of you - we want Sky one, so we're off anyway!

OP posts:
fannyannie · 05/03/2007 15:57

Sky are constantly changing what they charge - we lost count of the number of times our subscription for the basic package went up in the 2yrs we were with them - and we never got anything more out of them.

And DC - you look at this website and tell me that Murdoch doesn't have a monopoly on the media........

And lets not forget that they are now the biggest shareholder in ITV........

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/03/2007 16:02

Thats the problem we had fanny, the price going up and up, and channels disappearing or changing to added charge.

We swapped to Telewest. It has been fab, we have been getting more and more channels added free of charge. Am disappointed that we have lost Sky1, simply for LOST. However, I understand that Virgin have got the rights for that series now - Im not bothered about having to wait to see it.
