A very lovely MNer translated that Joyce Grenfell poem for me when my German was shite wobbly. For the funeral of a friend of mine. Her parents were very touched, I spoke it at the funeral.

Surrey, near Epsom, near the gee gees I grew up with. Came here to race ours when I were a lass.

I will always remember the thread a few years ago, where a poster was trying to leave her home, she was a victim of DV, iirc.
She needed help, but no one could really do much.
Except you Zombie. You got in your car and drove about two hours to get her.
Most of MN was going mad at you - you didn't know who she was, it might have all been a hoax etc. But you did it because it might actually have been real. What we didn't all know at the time was that you'd been in touch with MNHQ, and whilst they weren't happy with what you were doing, they could keep an eye on you, and be in contact.
I admit I went to bed worried about you that night.
But that, to me, is what made you different from any other poster on MN, from many other people in RL. To go to that length for a stranger... amazing.

I have one of my favourite candles on which has an Alpine forest scent. Reminds me of walking through beautiful green trees on a crisp winter day, blue sky above. That's what I hope your journey will be like.

I crochet a lot better than I write, so please forgive these ramblings, but all the light and love on this thread triggered a memory that I would like to share.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to visit the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. I hadn't done my research and had no idea what to expect, and as I emerged from the dark staircase into a room filled with the most glorious coloured light I was completely overwhelmed. I'm not terribly religiously inclined, but in that moment if someone had told me I had died and entered heaven I think I would have believed them. I have been crocheting squares for Candy's hugs, in the amazing vibrant riot colours that represent her personality, and they put me in mind of the light and colours in the chapel. Therefore as I hold Zombie in the light, it is a vibrant riot of coloured light, and I hope as she makes this journey she is surrounded by such colour, light and love, and creates a true riot on the other side when she arrives.
