I don't know - dh was looking at the story online today and I think it was a Swedish/Norwegian/Danish company that manufactured the iffy stuff - I know M&S, Sainsburys, Safeway and I think tesco have pulled stuff. I'll see if I can find what he was looking at.

marthamoo · 17/02/2007 18:36

It was yahoo here and it's an Icelandic firm (I was close...ish)

edam · 17/02/2007 18:37

I think it's own brands from Sainsbury's/Waitrose/M&S and some other stores. Have a vague memory than when I saw the list in the paper, there was a French Sainsbury's one on the list though, sorry. Try BBC Online?

TheBlonde · 17/02/2007 18:38

bbc

All own brand Sains houmous has been recalled

marthamoo · 17/02/2007 18:38

Blandmum · 17/02/2007 18:40

Thanks. Mine is Sabra brand, made in =France, so I assume is OK

Their press release says Sainsbury's own brand houmous, flavoured houmous and topped houmous - all date codes up to 28th February.

marthamoo · 17/02/2007 18:41

I think yours will be fine - bet no-one eats it though You've not got any Bernard Matthews' turkey on offer as well, have you?

pooka · 17/02/2007 18:43

Oh dear. DS addicted to houmus and we've been eating the sainsbury's stuff all week (have just thrown away the last mini pot empty). Fingers crossed.

marthamoo · 17/02/2007 18:45

It says in their press release that no-one has been ill as a result of eating it - I'm sure withdrawing it is just precautionary.

edam · 17/02/2007 18:46

Problem is that it's a ready to eat product, same as Cadbury's chocolate, so contamination won't be destroyed by cooking.

Bet you are OK though Pooka, it can't all be contaminated, can it? [hopeful emoticon]

DizzyBint · 17/02/2007 18:49

we've been eating sainsbury's stuff all week too. would we have been ill by now though if it was contaminated? dd adores it!

pooka · 17/02/2007 18:51

Here's hoping its just precautionary. Love the idea of a hopeful emoticon.

alex8 · 17/02/2007 18:52

if you are pregnant could your baby get salmonella without you having any symptoms?

alex8 · 17/02/2007 18:54

just looked at the pregnancy nutrition site and it seems not. phew

marthamoo · 17/02/2007 18:57

The onset of symptoms after eating food contaminated with salmonella is is generally 12 ? 48 hours but can vary between 6 and 72 hours.

(I googled that, btw, I don't just carry this stuff round in my head ) So I reckon it's a fairly safe bet to say if you've been eating it all week, pooka, you'll be fine.

Spagblog · 17/02/2007 19:03

I have just bought some from Tescos and I am buggered if I am taking it back!

Mercy · 17/02/2007 19:04

I threw away our half-eaten tub of houmous from Sainsbury's this morning.

dd had quite bad stomach ache in the middle of the night which got me slightly worried tbh (she had quite a lot of the houmous0 - but she also has a stinking cold atm, I think she may be been a bit dehydrated.

pointydog · 17/02/2007 19:57

and I was all annoyed at M&S this evening when I saw they had no houmus on their shelves.

pooka · 19/02/2007 14:26

Well no salmonella here! Though ds really really grumpy. But then that could describe practically every day for the last 3 weeks (unless we're climbing up and down the stairs/rolling in mud all day long).

Think think think I remember dd going through this phase too when she was about 18months. That might be wishful thinking though. He may just be Oscar the Grouch until the end of time......

No houmous with my ocado delivery today - either there's been a run on waitrose brand stuff or it's not available. I do miss it though - the perfect easy lunch. Peel carrots, cut cucumber, make toast et voila!
