I found out last night that I am being ripped off by AOL. I am paying £17.99 for product that many other users are paying £9.99 for.

They are basically advertising this package for £14.99 at the moment with a free wireless router. There are rumours that you can actually get it for £9.99 if you don't take the wireless router - just google 'AOL Silver & 9.99'. The news is worse if you are paying for GOLD because apparently this doesn't exist any more (since 15th Jan)- these users have apparently been downgraded to silver (which is now 2Mb anyway) but still paying for GOLD.

My MIL queried this by using their live help IM talk thing. She was offered £14.99. She told them she wanted the £9.99 deal. The operator didn't know anything about that . She asked to put thru to supervisor and she was suddenly offered £9.99. According to the geeky forums many users are getting this just by saying they want the same as what their 'friend' is getting. My SIL is also now paying £9.99.

I don't know whether there is a similar situation with the Platinum (which is advertised at £29.99 for 8Mb with free router).

There is one Catch. In order to take the £9.99 yo have to sign up to a new 12m contract. I have to admit I havn't done this yet as the Sky package is miles cheaper than either of these and I don't want to tie in for 12m before I have decided whether to change. I am currently looking for feedback on Sky broadband...

Can you only get hold of aol over live chat? We got the original silver £9.99 deal but we're trying to talk to them about how crap our connectivity is. Quite often we get to 11.30pm and the service just freezes and you can't use it anymore. It can quite often be slow and the service totally effects our phone line. We've tried contacting them several times by email but get no response and they don't appear to have a phone no. I'm on the verge of cancelling our DD so someone will talk to us goddammit!!!!

Well I think I had one of the more difficult ones - but just to prove that if you stick with it you will prevail...

I didn;t go for the 9.99 as I have been hankering after wireless for some time but couldn;t be arsed to change from AOL for the reasons you gave earlier ... but have now saved £3 per month (a glass of wine) and now have a wireless router on its way.

I went for this last night and they wouldn't budge from £14.99 and even said that it was a technical error and people who had been offered £9.99 would not be getting it! I had saved the two conversations I had (I tried twice ) but my pc crashed last night before I could post. It'll be interesting to see what happens!

They told me 3 times I coldn't have £9.99. I got it in the end (hopefully). I did save the conversation and will be querying it with them if I don't

have only read the op but IME aol are nothing but a useless bunch of rip off merchants,their call centre staff cant speak english and arent trained in even basic customer service and their internet service in general is shite.needless to say im with another provider now....
