Thanks for your email. With a better idea of numbers we should be able to look after you without any problems; we could reserve an area for you. The only stumbling block may be at 6pm as we're not permitted to have minors on the premises beyond that time. If that's not likely to be an issue then drop me a line with peak numbers and we'll take care of the rest for you.

what is that place called on St Martins lane - down from the Duke Of yorks - on the corner

Mumpbump · 13/02/2007 12:34

There is a bar called the International, but I don't think you can mean that. Why don't you try Pizza Express opposite Charing Cross? I've been to one of their restaurants in the middle of the day for coffe so I'm sure they wouldn't mind if people were popping in and out.

bundle · 13/02/2007 12:35

you're right beety, real gap in the market

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 12:36

I did mean the international - that coudl be a good place. It is large, they ahve sofas etc

don't want pizza express -don't want to HAVE to eat

OP posts:
bundle · 13/02/2007 12:38

I don't know if the cafe in Liberty's has sofas these days

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 12:40

oh yes - i wil look

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 14:47

International will open the Champagne bar for us - have to guarantee to spend 200 quid - not sure we will - depends on who turns up and if they have coffee or Champagne - we get our own waitress -

OP posts:
Mumpbump · 13/02/2007 15:51

The International would never have crossed my mind as a child-friendly place, but I guess it depends on the age of the children... Yours sound like they're a bit older than ours...

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 15:55

they are ok with kikds but not sure I want to guarentee 200 quid spending - what happens if we al just want a coffee? this is proving more difficult that I thought. Maybe i shoudl look around when I get there and text evehyone

What about having a look for a Jamie's winebar. There is one on Kingsway, I think. You can reserve an area there free of charge and they have their own website...

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 16:04

no kids in Jamies bars - sad as they looked good

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 13/02/2007 16:12

how about the piano bar in Kettners?

crumpet · 13/02/2007 16:14

Not been in since I worked in the area years ago, but between Bank & 1 Aldwych there is the Waldorf Hotel. I seem to remember it had a large cafe/lobby type area which might do. It's now a Hilton so don't know the extent to which its been refurbished. Might be worth a try.

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 16:22

kettners does look good and maybe I coudl book a chinese for dinner afterwards at 6ish -

anyone have an opinion about chinese resturants in china town? Rember loads kids

OP posts:
Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 16:27

Waldorf has the patisserie which sounds good - blimey -

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 13/02/2007 17:35

Kettners was rather scummy last time I went there (a long time ago) but it looks like it has been done up

CountessDracula · 13/02/2007 17:36

(also you can eat there it used to be pizza express/hamburger heaven don't know if it still is though)

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 17:36

MrsWobble · 13/02/2007 18:06

would smollensky's be any good? it's on the strand so reasonably central. don't know if they'd want you to eat there though but could be worth a call

Beetrootccio · 13/02/2007 22:02

I will try them - that sounds like a good idea

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 13/02/2007 22:13

as others have said One Aldwych pretty formal - lovely - but owuldn't have thought suitable. Bank would be good at w/e but businessy in the week.

I agree Smollenskys could be good - I have used it for informal work christmas lunches and have spent the afternoon there between table and bar area so this could work.

Erm.. browns on St Martins Lane ? Bar in the savoy ? An All Bar One type place (minors might be the issue again though). A cafe rouge ?
