I think judging people for their life choices is right - it is certainly the lifeblood of an internet discussion board

I'm sure you all have your reasons for what you say, Cansatrve.

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 22:55

It's hard. I suppose it depends whether your comments would be likely to improve the situation or not. It's a fine line between tactless galumphing and the difference that makes a difference,

edam · 02/02/2007 23:05

Gillian McKeith has a sense of humour? Can't say I've ever noticed it. Nor have the people I know who work with her...

Actually she's a really good example of the sort of judgement that pisses me off. The sort of idiot who thinks it is sensible to tell someone living on benefits to buy blueberries out of season... or making up some guff about wonder ingredients. Or telling people they have to get up an hour early just to make a fresh smoothie, ffs. She obtained her PhD from an unaccredited 'university' btw. (Got a more reputable qualification after the 'DegreesRus' place was exposed, though).

Sooo what hacks me off are lazy, stupid judgements made by people who haven't bothered to use their imagination. Who haven't made any attempt to understand that someone else's life might be very different to their own.

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 23:08

She sometimes looks like she's smiling slightly at her own act though, I think, edam.

Sooo what hacks me off are lazy, stupid judgements made by people who haven't bothered to use their imagination. Who haven't made any attempt to understand that someone else's life might be very different to their own." yes yes yes yes yes. Agree 10000000000000000%.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/02/2007 23:09

Well, there is judging, and there 'judging'.

Depends which kind of judging you mean really. The former is fine, and quite right.

The latter...well, depends how far you want to take discrimination i suppose. Plus against what morals you are discriminating.

Tortington · 02/02/2007 23:10

i never judge, i think you are aall terrible, horrible people for judging.

AitchTwoOh · 02/02/2007 23:12

i thought that was a twitch, scummy. i loathe gillian mckeith.

someone on here has a great story about one of her children. apparently she was asked to bring in a picture of her favourite things to school. most children brought in pictures of their grandmas or dogs. mckeith jr brought in pics of a doughnut and a pizza.

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 23:12

Yes, you are a paragon of non judgingness indeed, custs.

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 23:15

LOL, I so hope that is true, aitch.

Maybe the steely tight lipped smile I had taken for a certain grim humour is in fact a twitch? (Hasten to add that I have never thought of you as twitchy, moondog, not that i am judging twitches.)

Tortington · 02/02/2007 23:16

i feel you judging my non judgemental stance scummy.

pmsl btw at unquietdad earlier!

Twinklemegan · 02/02/2007 23:17

There are two things that infuriate me about MN, and I'm sure it applies to other internet forums as well:

many people (you know who you are...) make sweeping judgements without bothering to read or understand the facts

the word "choice" is misused time and time again

I have been on the receiving end of both of these and I try not to do the same to others. This is an anonymous internet forum so it's to be expected, but I do think it often brings out the worst in people .

[But there are lots of lovely, helpful MNetters out there too ]

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 23:17

yes- v funny.

JanH · 02/02/2007 23:18

I thought you meant children too, custy. Ol' DC has been away too long (I know he's back now, lucky old us, but I'm used to him not being here )

Tortington · 02/02/2007 23:18

i think shes refering to me when shes says helpful.

Twinklemegan · 02/02/2007 23:21

She??! Who's she?

Tortington · 02/02/2007 23:22

you dear. the one i help.

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 23:26

What a patronising tone to use to tm, custardface. I judge you for that. Very harshly. You are clearly the sort to poison your friends with sambucca.;)

Tortington · 02/02/2007 23:28

i wouldnt do that - then leave them to mercy of small town bus service. ever.

ScummyMummy · 02/02/2007 23:32

lol. I like buses.

Twinklemegan · 02/02/2007 23:34

Don't really know you btw custardo, so wouldn't presume to judge if you're helpful or not

expatinscotland · 02/02/2007 23:44

That takes a lot of energy, though.

And I'm a lazy sod who mostly just doesn't give a toss about much.

Twinklemegan · 02/02/2007 23:47

That's fine as long as you don't post on emotive threads saying hurtful things. I'm all for flippancy in the right context, but some things can hurt, and I mean really HURT. Not seen anything like that from you though Expat

Rhubarb · 02/02/2007 23:50

Twinkle - take a chill pill dearie. Us are from oop North so sarcasm is a way of life. It's all tongue in cheek however.

Go and lie down!
