Getting married in April and want to do a bag of some sort to keep kiddies happy/entertained during speeches and other boring bits.
have decided on sweets for all but stuck for other ideas.Don't fancy bubbles either.
So there is girls of 12,10 and 2.5 and boys of 11,9 and 4.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

One fo my friends made party bag type things with little colouring books and crayons etc

agalch · 20/01/2007 08:17

Thanks whoops, that would keep them sitting down and quiet for a while lol

Anyone else? Have a budget of around 10 pounds per bag.

Have a a look at the Book People's website - they do packs of books very inexpensively. We bought picture books as a present at the last Birthday party and they worked out at £1 per book for books normally £5

agalch · 20/01/2007 08:34

Great ideas, think i'll have a look at both of those shosha and glassofwine.
maybe too early to be buying all this but panicking slightly at everything i have still to do.

You could do the bags up now, put them away and cross them off your to do list! Another little worry gone! We put colouring books and stuff in our kids bags (and wipes for sticky faces and fingers!) but ours were all under 3, I was thinking something like those scoobie things they used to play with, something quiet that will occupy them, maybe a cheap hand held game???? What about a camera? Give them something to do and be involved a bit more?

agalch · 20/01/2007 08:46

Oh great idea, disposable camera for the over 5's to get them involved.Scoobies for the girls yup great ideas.

3Ddonut,was it your dh who had the snip the same time as mine?

We had a bag with lip gloss, hair bands and girly stuff for the girls, who had a great time in the loos trying it all and minature play doh and pencils for the littler ones. There were other things but I've forgotten now, will see if I've got a list anywhere.

Or you could make it a child free wedding.

LGJ legs it...............~~~~~~~~~~~~

UCM · 20/01/2007 10:19

What about hiring a nanny for the day to entertain and bringing some toys from your/your friends homes. Friend did this and it worked very well.

agalch · 20/01/2007 10:44

Hmmmm child free wedding? Well the thought did cross my mind but 4 of the buggers are mine lol

Had also thought about a childminder/nanny to come and help out but the older ones would be mortified at the thought. My dd2 will still be bfing when we get married so she'll be like a limpet anyway. Will run it past dp and see what he thinks.

Thanks again

at my nieces christening resently i cornered off an area for children
as a childminder i have loads of toys so brought toys such as bib the builder, jigsaws, dolls, colouring, potato head, books
the children had a fab time and were very good everybody said what a fab idea

dont like the idea of sweets as they will be on a high with the e numbers what about other things like yogurt coated raisins, bread sticks, rice cakes, fruit.

Hulababy · 20/01/2007 12:43

Like the ideas of cameras - even the 4 year old would be okay doing that, and you might be suprised at how interesting the children's photos are as they tend to be allowed to get away with shots grown ups can't!

Puzzle books, colouring books, stickers, pens/pencils, mini card game, craft things (beads, etc.).

Baker Ross, The Book People, Blue Moon - places like these would be a good start.

Wilkinsons do stuff like this as well quite cheaply.

agalch · 20/01/2007 12:43

DMO i'm a childminder too,my neices and nephews are not great with games crafty stuff etc.Tend to make loads of mess and don't generally get on when playing together.

Wasn't planning on loads of sweets, just a few bits. Will be eating a sit down meal so won't need too much .

agalch, yes that was us, how is your dh? Mine was 'sore' for a while but is totally fine now!

I totally agree with the nanny idea, mine were 2.5 and 18months when we married, I knew that if I asked my Mum or his Mum to watch them there would be times when they were distracted and I knew I wouldn't enjoy my day worrying, so...my sister's boyfriends mother (!) who is a registered childminder came to the wedding and just watched the kids, her sole job was to not take her eyes off the kids and she didn't, she was fantastic, she came to meet the kids a week or two before the wedding and they really hit it off, I couldn't have enjoyed our day without her and I'm sure our Mum's were grateful that they could just enjoy the day too. My cousin had loads of kids at his wedding and after food during the speeches they hired a clown for the kids to go into another room, great sucess!

I liked the table confetti idea, kids love to feel useful!

A wedding I went to recently had little boxes full of goodies, each box had the childs name on the top. they were lovely.. not sure what site they were from, I will try and find out.

liquidclocks · 20/01/2007 21:48

what about those wooden/metal puzzles - they seem to keep most people occupied for a little while, that way the parents wont be bored either

gemmiegoatlegs · 20/01/2007 21:52

I faffed about for ages making individually tailored party bags for the five kids at our wedding last year. And you know what? The older l.os ran about manically and the toddlers ate their dinners beautifully and fell asleep. I hope they enjoyed the bags when they got home, is all i can say...
I would chuck a few sweets and some crayons in a bag and spend the money on champagne and Toblerones

MrsMuddle · 20/01/2007 22:05

We were at a wedding recently, and the children all got a bag with age-appropriate lego in it, and also a disposable camera each. She also hired a magician to walk about and do tricks for the kids. It went down really well.

3Ddonut · 20/01/2007 22:10

Cod...£10 per bag.....

3Ddonut · 20/01/2007 22:10

lego very popular in our house at the mo...
