yuk Chagall .. paints like a child, costs a fortune

friend's family had a REAL chagall .. which they pointed out with great pleasure and pride (as one would) and I had to stand and admire the 'childish simplicity'

this was before I had kids

I swear my almost 6 year old is SO MUCH BETTER

NB have you consulted DH - he has to sleep in there too...

cheeryface · 18/01/2007 22:13

yes, but he wasn't much help. tells me what he doesn't like but not what he does.
mind you, he won't bother too much whatever goes up, as long as i'm not moaning at him

now, chagall looks kinda weird to me

exactly

MerryMarigold · 18/01/2007 22:35

Bet dh would go for Hylas and the Nymphs (as recommended by Mrs Badger)!!!

Jbck · 19/01/2007 00:14

I don't like it but the one at the back is definitely a man (half-man/half-something)

Chandra · 19/01/2007 00:23

The one at the back is a man, torso is not femenine at all.

This is not the sort of thing I would have in my house but is not that bad either. (although I opened the link expecting a StarWars meets the Fairies sort of thing). Chagall I respect, but not as much as to get one in my house unless... it would matched the carpet, or something else, beautifully .

fizzbuzz · 19/01/2007 08:46

Yes, thanks superbrains it was Chagall. Spent all night trying to remember who it was, so am now knackered!

sunnywong · 19/01/2007 08:49

No
sorry I don't

and it is a quasi sapphic elfin fantasy and no mistake

Twiglett · 19/01/2007 08:52

"and it is a quasi sapphic elfin fantasy and no mistake"

rofl

paulaplumpbottom · 19/01/2007 08:56

Its very odd

schneebly · 19/01/2007 08:58

I love Waterhouse! Hylas and the Nymphs is beautiful.

cheeryface · 19/01/2007 13:02

No. Sorry. I think its disturbing.

snowleopard · 19/01/2007 13:33

I love Chagall and we have
this in our kitchen (not the original sadly) - I think it's very romantic (though maybe not in a sex way)

Don't like the pointy-eared lezzer scene much.

pointydog · 19/01/2007 14:47

Have you seen that tiny church near Tunbridge where Chagall designed the stained glass windows? Utterly gorgeous and poignant.

fizzbuzz · 19/01/2007 15:05

Have been keeping low profile on this thread as brain is so addled by maternity leave, cannot remember any artists at all, and it is what I get paid for FFS!

However, I also like Chagall, but not the other stuff.

ruty · 19/01/2007 15:41

love chagall. this pic is naff tho, sorry.

cheeryface · 20/01/2007 09:54

i think it's amazing how we all have different tastes, although, i think my tastes might be mine alone!

snowleapard,i find that painting creepy, it's the man i think, all contorted! but then what do i know

I don't like it either, I'm with the Wong. (ooh that's got a ring to it, hasn't it?)

Bucketsofdynomite · 20/01/2007 10:57

I don't think the elfin one is very good TBH, the 'guy's' torso kind of lookos like an extra elbow (not unfeasible given his ears.)
It does remind me of Thomas Kincaid too but then millions of people love and collect Thomas Kincaid and fairy/scifi prints so don't let a bunch of Mumsnetters put you off Cheeryface.

Bucketsofdynomite · 20/01/2007 10:57

BTW has anyone seen that mad woman on QVC with the fairy jewellery and the 'magic' glitter and the gushing phonecalls?
