i do a little spritz with some smelly that is actually my daughters ( i stole it) its perfect handbag size and has a screw off top.

i would like to make a citrus spray just for a nice fresh smell as i walk into the office after being in traffic.

i presume its much more than boiling some lemons?!
if anyone would know how to do this - i am sure mumsnetters would.

thanking you in anticipation

What about using some distilled water and some lemon essential oil, just shake before you use it.

Oati · 16/01/2007 14:10

I was thinking it might be sticky?

JackieNo · 16/01/2007 14:11

I bet Expat will know - presumably some essential oil - neroli, or something. But what you dilute it in, not sure.

JackieNo · 16/01/2007 14:12

Is it for you, or is it for the air, iyswim, custardo?

Tortington · 16/01/2007 14:12

forgive my ignorence - but where on earth do i buy essential oil from?

JackieNo · 16/01/2007 14:12

That was very badly phrased - room spray or perfume, I think I meant.

Oati · 16/01/2007 14:12

or some niffy work colleague?

Tortington · 16/01/2007 14:13

its to spray on me
a refreshing spritz

Boots has them. Also possibly Body Shop. Health food shops? Even larger supermarkets often have a few.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2007 14:14

Do you have any esential oils?

I like to use sweet orange, lemon and lemongrass.

Just mix a few drops each and then put in a spray bottle. Top up w/water and a bit of glycerin.

oliveoil · 16/01/2007 14:14

do you want to make it yourself or buy one?

if buy, then Jo Malone does something similar, but lime iirc

Tortington · 16/01/2007 14:14

i am very aware of smells. i have god awful stinky feet in summer so i wear sandles.

just a spray thats not perfume

perfume is too strong
doesnt give a @fresh@ smell - just a perfume smell.

and gives me asthma!

You can buy little bottles of essential oils in Boots, or health food shops.

Add a few drops to a little spray bottle of water, and give it a shake before you use it.

Tortington · 16/01/2007 14:18

Does Neals Yard still exist? They did oils and had good staff to advise.

BettySpaghetti · 16/01/2007 14:20

I've made a lovely room spray using grapefruit, bergamot and a tiny bit of lavender essential oils. Its a bit trial and error trying to get the right combination though. Lovely and fresh.

Neals Yard, large branches of Boots etc are good for the oils and most chemists sell glycerine

Tortington · 16/01/2007 14:21

wonderful thank you

WigWamBam · 16/01/2007 14:22

Ohh, bergamot is just gorgeous, if you want a really lovely, very citrussy smell, that's the one to go for. It's fab.

oliveoil · 16/01/2007 14:23

are oils ok around children?

just thinking if you were spraying with abandon and coating the room

Kittypickle · 16/01/2007 14:24

You can get glycerine in Tescos etc, in the cake making section, in a little clear bottle like the one with food colourings in. Costs about 50p I think.

BettySpaghetti · 16/01/2007 14:26

WWB, bergamot is great isn't it? -I drink earl Grey tea too and love sniffing it when I open the storage tin (got to be Twinings though!).

In fact I think its probably my favourite smell.
