I know I asked a while ago, but that was about UK generally, not just london.

Now have to organise a wedding before I am too big to fit into a dress!!

Recommendations please for reception venues in London.

Our church is in the City, but it doesn't have to be right next to that.

We want somewhere we can have a sit down meal for 30 and then 60 in the evening for dancing.

Any of the big hotels should be able to do that for you. So long since I've been to a London wedding I can't remember venues but my friend had a lovely reception at a hotel in St James's (near New Scotland Yard).

Love the name, btw, are you marrying Carrot at last?

Bucketsofdynomite · 03/01/2007 13:44

That's relatively small so you shouldn't have any problems. How about a big Greek restaurant? Yummy food, enthusiastic waiters and jolly atmosphere. Bit more casual but fun and intimate.

Forgot to add on the other thread, give yourself more than 3months in case morning sickness kicks in. I was practically invalid for my first trimester.

I had my wedding in a City church as well, with a reception at Coq d'Argent (though too big for you I think...) Will it be on a Saturday? If so, most restaurants will be closed and therefore most likely available for functions. Squaremeal.co.uk would be a good place to start looking.

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 13:48

Square meal is quite good for venue ideas
Lots of unusual places livery halls etc in the city link

twelveweekstomaternityleave · 03/01/2007 13:52

There are a few City wedding venues here on Squaremeal.

If you're looking for something on a budget then perhaps a tapas restaurant (or Greek) as already suggested.

I went to a friend's 40th birthday party at the Conservatory in the Barbican here May be too big.

MrsBadger · 03/01/2007 14:14

ooh, go for a livery hall (have a feeling we've had this conversation before), or what about the HAC ?

As you're in the City I can evangelise to you about walking - I walked from the hotel to the ceremony/reception venue and some of my favourite memories (not to mention photos) are from walking proudly through the streets followed by a posse of family and bridesmaids, being cheered and photographed by all and sundry!

Bucketsofdynomite · 03/01/2007 14:17

ooh I love The Barbican, it's so 1984! But a bit more utopian.

We got married in the City and then just over Tower bridge to a gallery called Delfina on Bermondsey Street. They have a cafe at the front and gallery at the back and I think you can just hire one space or both of you need them (they are pretty big. Food was amazing and the rental cost was far less than many other places (they also had v reasonable corkage charge compared to others so we were able to do booze cruise for wine etc). I may be very out of date as our wedding was nearly 9 years ago but the Delfina is still there and still has a lovely cafe (no outside space though, really) so they might still do party hire.

MrsBadger · 03/01/2007 14:26

Staple Inn Hall might be too big...

CountessDracula · 03/01/2007 14:27

How about Vinopolis they have several suitable sized rooms

twelveweekstomaternityleave · 03/01/2007 14:30

Me too MrsBadger! I walked from Eldon St to bank. It was lovely. Lots of waves from people on buses and taxis beeping us and lots of lovely photos!

Wilbur · 03/01/2007 14:30

Delfina is here

MrsBadger · 03/01/2007 14:31

... but Watermens Hall looks just about the right size.

(NB if you say it's for 'dinner and dancing' you may get better prices than if you say 'wedding reception')

If you want florist recommendations, let me know...

Blu · 03/01/2007 14:39

Thank you all for your messages, would have posted again earlier but had to go to bed last night and then had really busy day today.

Mrs badger, we have had this conversation before, we loved the skinners hall but it was stunningly expensive, even charged per head for napkins!!!!

Will check out all the other suggestions, thank you all so much.

Also Very good point made about being past 1st Trimester. We are thinking 30th March so would be at end of fourth month!

Jura, we are getting married at St james Garlichythe. Is that one of the ones you sing at?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 03/01/2007 17:36

ooh, I think I sang there once or twice (we used to do rent-a-choir for livery company services) - it's very nice!

just across the road is Vintner's Hall, whose Swan Room seats 24 for dinner and 50 for a reception...

a fairly random one here but there is a bar/pub thing called The Samuel Pepys down an alleyway on the river near there. It has superb views of the Tate Modern and the Globe, the lighting in it is gorgeous and it has a room overlooking the river that would suit that many. They will arrange music etc. Have been there a few times for worky dos and everyone has always thought it fab.

It is not very amazingly posh, is in an old wharf, but is very nice. May be worth a peek (but go at night as it is much nicer in teh dark)
