Appalled that someone who has an obvious alcohol problem is a teacher for the rest of the year. Are you sure about the teacher bit? After all, schools don't break up until just before Christmas yet he was able to work in the theatre from November.

You can lodge a small claim online at moneyclaimonline.gov.uk for £30 (I think). That's if you now have his address.

It's all done via post/internet so you probably wouldn't have to attend to contend it, then if he didn't refute it you would get a CCJ against him plus the £30 costs.

Very simple and easy, I've got one against someone who sold me something dodgy on ebay.

Good luck

only trouble with civil case is that it will be your word against his IYKWIM. you know he did it but the judge could say it could have broke anyway. how funny to see the police walking in there looking for him.

CountessDracula · 03/01/2007 22:49

tbh I would leave it now if it were me

You don't have any actual evidence do you? I know it was obviously him, but you may end up incurring costs which would be further expense.

write to him at home and hopefully his wife will see the letter

The other thing with a 'Small Claims Court' is that Mr Alky can have the case heard wherever he likes - so if he lives miles away you'll have to travel there for the day.

GodRestYeMerryNORTHERNERs · 04/01/2007 09:57

Well at least the police were concerned, that's a result! He must have shit himself when they turned up looking for him.

And he's been blacklisted on the list so won't get cheap digs anymore.

at prescription drugs and excess alcohol.

Well, issuing a small claim is pretty straightforward and not very expensive. I would get all the evidence from your locksmith re damage to the door, cost of repair (including what you haven't yet incurred) and issue proceedings. Include details in your claim of his actions when confronted by the damage (clearing out his room, etc., even though he wasn't due to leave). Judges aren't stupid.

If he submits a defence, then the matter will automatically be transferred to his home court (although you can apply for it to be transferred back on the grounds that the issue arose in your area, he was living in your area at the time, etc. - no guarantee they'll transfer it back, but it's worth a try). Chances are he won't defend, but will sh*t himself at not only receiving a visit from the police (nice one btw!) but also being sued. Might make him sober up too.

Doesn't explain why he fled the following morning, though, does it? And, as he'd been drunk every other night, why should that night have been any different?

Have you informed the theatre that, because of his behaviour, you will no longer offer lodgings to their travelling players?
