How do you make yourself get up in the morning???

I know my life would run smoother (term time) if I were to get up at half six, get sorted, have a cup of tea, run a bath to chuck DD in when she wakes etc.... but I wake then, groan, pass out til half seven, then run round insanely!

DS wakes several times in the night and I'm just bloody tired.

How do I sort of power through the tiredness???

Coffee machine next to bed?? Wake, flip switch, drink super strong coffee...

TinsellyRhino · 30/12/2006 21:25

I dunno, I'm hoping someone else will come along and give me the magic answer cauae at the mo I drag my shattered asa out of bed, thriow on the same dirty clothes stuff my hair into a ponytail and then tackle trying to find NAY clean clothes for the kids, hating myself for the mess, feeling like shit with hair unbrushed let alone washed, eating shit and beiong shouty

babble balle, insane rambling

sorry

nutcracker · 30/12/2006 21:25

Errm not sure, i think it's the thought of either being late (i hate that) or having to run out the door in my pj's that does it.

I get up at 6.45 to get myself and 3 kids ready and be out the door by 8.20 if thats any help.

What time do you have to leave ??

ScummyMummy · 30/12/2006 21:25

I put my alarm clock by my bedroom door so i have to get out of bed to turn it off and then get straight into the shower.

twinsetandpearls · 30/12/2006 21:25

I hate mornings, I think my natural surface time is about 10 -10.30.Getting up has always been an issue for my but I now manage on a working day to ket up at 5 which amazes eveyone. It took me a couple of weeks but I now wake up at that time naturally, I start the day with hot water and lemon followed by a veg juice and I make sure I ahve everything laid out so I have time to sit for a proper breakfast.

nutcracker · 30/12/2006 21:26

I still rush around though by the way, as I am not organised enough and usually have to iron something or fix something before we go.

twinsetandpearls · 30/12/2006 21:27

I think most of it is perseverance while you body gets used to waking earlier.

MrsBadger · 30/12/2006 21:27

Put the alarm clock on the other side of the room so you have to get up to turn it off.
Then once you're up you're halfway to the bathroom, so you might as well get straight in the shower... and once you're showered and dressed everything seems more copable with.

I still lure myself to work by having a No Coffee In The House rule, so that to get that essential first cup I have to get to the office...

twinsetandpearls · 30/12/2006 21:28

I think nutcracker is right abiut the thought of being late being a motivator, I teach and if I am not atmy desk by half six I don;t get evrything done and will ahve a hellish day. The thought of me being unprepared facing a room of hormonal troublesome teenagers motivates me to get out of bed.

Nemo2007 · 30/12/2006 21:29

I am awful and will leave it all till last minute..Ds goes to playgroup 3 mornings where he has to be there by 9am it is a 15min or so drive so to factor in a breakfast and getting myself ds and dd dressed I know I have to be up by 7.50am at the latest and that leaves no room for error/tantrums.Semi dreading arrival of DB as will have to add in more time for them while also doing the getting up with a newborn bit..arghhh

CaptainFlameSparrow · 30/12/2006 21:31

Ooh if I had a shower there would be no issue... just a bath so I tend to just wash in the morning which is less appealing. Will try the putting the phone over the other side of the room.

We have to be starting to leave to get in the car at 8.30... we are never late, but it is always a rush iyswim. Thinking if I master the early bit then it would be much calmer (and DD's hair would be prettier )

do you know, it hadnt occured to me to wake up before the dc's... hmmmm, now theres an idea... (im such a flake sometimes)

CaptainFlameSparrow · 30/12/2006 21:35

Nemo - I found that as long as I fed DS in bed, and didn't bother dressing him til we got home (or dressed him during DD having breakfast) that he wasn't an issue

NappiesGalooooooooooooria · 30/12/2006 21:36

oh id kill for a bath. we only have a shower at the mo (house being done up) and i hate not being able to have a bath (to soak and scrub and shave and all that crap i dont do v often, but once in a while would be nice!)
actually we do have a bath, but the boys are in it every night so its constantly filled with toys and silt and nothing of any use/value to adults is within reach... too much effort to use that! (lazy pig)

NappiesGalooooooooooooria · 30/12/2006 21:39

oh shite. this thread is a bit of a wake up call for me actually... ds1 starts at a nursery from 8:15am in jan (8:15am??? are they mad??), ds2 will start his at 9:30. i CANT be late for ds1, so will have to start getting up really early!!

TheArmadillo · 30/12/2006 21:41

If I really can't get up I roll over and onto the floor. It hurts. I get up.

Crazy but true

NappiesGalooooooooooooria · 30/12/2006 21:42

you cant be serious ?

TheArmadillo · 30/12/2006 21:43

yep.

2007nervesleft · 30/12/2006 21:44

My alarm clock is set very loudly which frightens me when it goes off. Much less chance of going back to sleep. Also make sure everything is done the night before to make the morning as easy as possible. Lunches made, bath kids night before, all uniforms and clothes ironed and laid out ready. I don't want to do all this in the evenings but from bitter experience I know I must.

Still find myself standing by the front door yelling get in the car now! though.

CaptainFlameSparrow · 30/12/2006 21:44

pmsl - I normally have things unplugged beside my bed... now that would REALLY wake me up!

southeastastra · 30/12/2006 21:45

with a fag

TheArmadillo · 30/12/2006 21:48

It also helps that my bathroom is downstairs and I have to go along way to the toilet so I'm usually awake by then

Nicotine cravings are fantastic for getting you up - you just have to go and get a fag

CaptainFlameSparrow · 30/12/2006 21:49

Would taking up smoking be too drastic...?

themoon66 · 30/12/2006 21:52

Definitely get up before your children. Do everything apart from dressed, coz you will only get their breakfasts down your clothes. Feed them whilst you are in PJs. Wash and dress them. Last thing before you leave the house.... put your work clothes on.

2007nervesleft · 30/12/2006 21:53

I am thinking of investing in a lumie alarm clock to help with getting up in the dark. I find if it is dark and I can hear it raining then it is particularly challenging to get out of bed and face that Monday morning.
