Had to go to the FPC after a mishap and had to get the Morning after pill. Have decided that I really should sort out a good form of contraception, but am not sure what one to get. I am useless with the pill so needs something that I can forget about...

Not the injection ime. I had it and cos it is in your system for 12 weeks I just felt like shit for 12 weeks. I am going to get the coil fitted i think when i can be arsed!

lulumama · 11/12/2006 21:43

mirena coil ..............had it 14 months, periods virtually stopped after 6 months..worth the spotting etc at the start....can forget about it for 5 years, but can be removed if you change your mind!

SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 21:48

oooooooooo I also did something that you lot will be proud of me for..... I have booked my smear test have been putting it off....

Get the coil put in at the same time and that will be you sorted

TinsellyRhino · 11/12/2006 21:53

another vote here for the mirena coil, it's fab. i also have the injection and felt like a mad, ill woman for 12 weeks, go with the mirena coil

TinsellyRhino · 11/12/2006 21:54

that would be HAD the injection once, never again

SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 21:56

i did think about getting the coil at the same time.

Have had the injection for the last year and don't feel like me anymore . Agree with feeling like a mad, ill woman. I'm not having it again and the GP has given me a load of info on the mirena coil etc, but I haven't read it all yet.

good luck!

SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 22:03

anyone had the implant??

wrappingpaperBOwZZAndribbons · 11/12/2006 22:07

I have had the mirena and the implant. Neither worked for me. The coil first time round caused excessive bleeding and then disappeared. Second time round couldn't be inserted because I have a long cervix and anterior womb. I had the implant for 13 months and just bled excessively, like 3 weeks on, 1 week off, and very heavy so had it taken out last Thursday. So I am back on the good, old combined pill.

HoHoHorsewoman · 11/12/2006 22:07

My friend turned into a homicidal maniac when she had the injection, and my sister got pregnant on it, so I'd steer well clear of that one. Interested to hear about the coil, keep meaning to sort it out for myself, but keep losing my nerve (don't know why..?)

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 11/12/2006 22:08

Try an injection, it's the least hassle and if you don't like it you don't have to have another.
If you don't have any problems with the progesterone, then try the Mirena coil (but get it fitted by someone who does it all day everyday, not your gp).
I wouldn't do implants, they're too visible/feelable and removal is an artform.

wrappingpaperBOwZZAndribbons · 11/12/2006 22:10

Actually stocking the things you mention about the implant were the least of my problems. Nobody ever noticed it (as far as I know) although I knew where it was. And it came out surprisingly easily. Just was hell while it was in. But then in retrospect so was the coil.

dmo · 11/12/2006 22:10

i've had the injection for 9 yrs
nurse just told me i may have to change as i have been onit a while now

my mum got pg with the coil

does anybody know anything about the inplant that you have put in your arm and lasts 5yrs

wrappingpaperBOwZZAndribbons · 11/12/2006 22:11

What difference would there be being on the injection compared with the implant? Surely it is just a different method of delivering the same hormones?

dmo · 11/12/2006 22:12

god knows
must be a doctor thing

SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 22:14

thing is I had an irritate womb when I was pregnant with dd2 and I am a bit worried about someone putting something into my womb....

OP posts:
Stockingsofdinosaurs · 11/12/2006 22:17

I think the main difference is just that you need to get the implants removed which is hassle for many. I know I have to use military precision to get to the gp without kids or car.

SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 22:22

the implant lasts 3 years. I just don;t know what form to have. I am not great with injections, especially into my bottom but I need to sort out a grown up form of contraception lol

OP posts:
SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 22:31

have been given lots of leaflets to help me decided, am seriously thinking about the coil, but am a bit concerned about my irritable womb, will this be a problem????

OP posts:
prufrock · 11/12/2006 22:32

I have the implant and love it (sorry bozza if my my recommendtaion pushed you towards something that turned out to be hell).

It is visible - but only if I want people to see it and make it move in my arm - which is my gross out party trick! And whilst it did screw up my priods for first three months (pretty much continuous very light bleeding) it has settled down now into y previous 28 aty cycle and periods are back to pre-kids light to medium, rather than the ultra heavy and terrible cramping I had after ds.

Hattie05 · 11/12/2006 22:35

Another vote against the injection - messed me up big time .

Shall watch this thread with interest as i'm considering coil but know very little about it.

twickersmum · 11/12/2006 22:52

send your dp off for a meeting with the bricks.

DontWantToHurtHer · 11/12/2006 22:59

I've just had my implant removed. My main reason for having it was the promise of no periods. First 3 months were 2wks on, 2wks off (very light spotting type, but very irritating), my 2 wks off I would have really bad headaches the whole time. Then after 2.5 months of nothing, I bled & bled & bled (10wk long period). So had it out and bleeding stopped after 2 days, back on mini pill.

SparklyXmasKat · 11/12/2006 23:02

lol @ the bricks.... my dad has offered to do that for DH, DH declined
