...a desk-top rocket launcher (with little foam missiles)

Fabulous. Why not package it up with a few photos of children's bodies being carried out of buildings in Lebanon? Or a couple of shots of tanks on fire with soldiers in them from Iraq?

Let's ban space invaders too as they encourage people to kill innocent alients.

Actually Early Learning Centre do have a foam rocket that you launch by stomping on a rubber thingy. I think I'll get it for ds now.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/12/2006 21:55

I agree Rhubarb

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 04/12/2006 21:55

Don't bother Rhubarb - it's shite.

Rhubarb · 04/12/2006 21:56

Do they not explode on impact then?

ledodgychristmasjumper · 04/12/2006 21:56

OOh we have that Rhubarb it's brill hours of fun for a fiver!

I do agree OP is OTT I mean what next banning toy garages because somebody somewhere has had a shunt.

ledodgychristmasjumper · 04/12/2006 21:57

DonnerDasherDancerDior you obviously don't stamp on it correctly.

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 04/12/2006 21:57

No, no killing or even minor destruction. Believe me, ds has tried

DonnerDasherDancerDior · 04/12/2006 21:58

Dodgy - our fins came off. Or maybe that was just ds being heavy handed!

ledodgychristmasjumper · 04/12/2006 21:59

Our fins are still intact however the tube and pump have long separated however ds likes to use the pump bit as a teether so it is multi purpose.

Rhubarb · 04/12/2006 21:59

dh and his mates used to make real rockets using potassium nitrate and icing sugar - they were cool!

ledodgychristmasjumper · 04/12/2006 22:01

My dp and his mates used to sit on top of his house throwing talc bombs at passers by.

NB he was about eleven at the time!

edam · 04/12/2006 22:04

I agree with hovely, it's tasteless given current events. Wonder if they are planning to extend the range with desktop cluster bombs, desktop anti-personnel mines, maybe even a desktop airfield with miniature planes to stop off during extra-ordinary rendition flights.

2ManyPimms · 04/12/2006 22:04

I was expecting tiny-tot leather thongs....!

Big deal.

Rhubarb · 04/12/2006 22:07

Are you sure it's not tongue in cheek though?

Come on! Really, I come back to my original point, if you feel that strongly about it then join Amnesty. These desktop games have been around for ages, I don't suppose the ADULTS who buy them really think they look like real rockets.

ruty · 04/12/2006 22:10

can no one understand the difference between a rocket and a rocket launcher ? [I love that emoticon.] As Nightynight said, we are pretty lucky not to have been in a war zone around here. I see a big difference between children making weapons out of sticks and trivializing weapons that are currently taking limbs off children. MP's joke about SWMNBN was funny because it was so far from reality, but was taken seriously. A desk top rocket launcher trivializes and celebrates a WMD. Not the worst thing in the world by any means, but in poor taste definitely.

moondog · 04/12/2006 22:10

Get a grip for Chrissakes.

I am more bothered about the fact that so much utterly useless crap is bought and given by people with Blu Tack for brains.

Can people really not think of anything more useful or original?

Skribble · 04/12/2006 22:12

I love the ELC one, but if the wind catches them they land in the neighbours.

berrycherry · 06/12/2006 10:52

don't see a problem, my dd (5) had a rocket launcher for her birthday, and it was one of her favourite things, it goes aboutr 60feet in the air, and all her friends love it - it bears no resemblance to a weapon, and I have never even associated it with one - more a space ship imo.

I have seen the desk top version in M&S, and think its a waste of money - but not offensive

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 06/12/2006 10:54

lol at not an offensive weapon

hovely · 06/12/2006 11:17

Well there you go..many different opinions.
I am just a bit concerned that so many people seemed to think I was talking about a stomp rocket ffs!

The one in M&S is not on the website and it is not like the USB ones which are widely available, it is much more realistic.
thnaks for your comments Ruty, you were one of the few who seemed to get my point!

It's hard to say why one thing gets to you when another doesn't. I personally don't have a problem with toy hand guns, but this thing just brought back all those horrific images.

OP posts:
hovely · 06/12/2006 11:19

and I have been a member of Amnesty for decades....

OP posts:
donnie · 06/12/2006 11:20

TBH it doesn't sounds any worse than kids playing with toy guns or those vile video games where you shoot people up every 3 seconds.

ruty · 06/12/2006 11:39

new evidence suggests those violent video games are damaging children's brains. Hardly harmless IMO.

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 06/12/2006 11:42

I thought it was a toy for adults..a desk top rocket launcher..presumably for the boss to give folks a rocket

GiraffeGotTheLastRoomInTheInn · 06/12/2006 11:44

Oh go and join an M and S haters support website.

Move along please, nothing to see here.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it.

Jeez, have you not got anything better to get upset about?

Why don't you get all upset about the REAL ROCKETLAUNCHERS and start a campaign about them. Leave the bloody toys alone. There will always be toy weapons and some people will always buy them, some people will always react in a comedy fashion.
