Since having two holidays in France last two years and bringing back vast amounts of wine we have got in habit of sharing a bottle most nights and often more . Looks like there are a few wine drinkers out there how much do you consume . I think I might be catching up from 36 months of pregnancy and the same again breastfeeding

ghengis I have ds 12 and I know what you mean about hormones. Unfortunately he saw this thread and questioned me and dh about how much we drink but we put his mind at rest and said it was normal and red wine healthy We felt like naughty school kids!

Keep reading this thread and thinking how boring I've become. Me and Dh rarely drink anything anymore, although I LOVE a few glasses of wine and really miss it.

I think my impending 40th year must have something to do with it, but if I have more than 1 glass of wine (and just 1 is so boring) I really struggle getting up the next morning and it takes me ages to come to while ds1 runs rings around me.

Before ds1 and ds2 we used to share a bottle of wine most nights but just can't hack it anymore.

twogorgeousboys · 12/05/2004 10:22

Just realised you've probably been in already to discuss this!

You're right Cazzybabs, we all say things we don't intend to in a panic, but the teacher seems to have "laid it on" way too thick in this case.

Sonnet · 12/05/2004 10:23

So very relieved to read that other Mums wine consumption has increased since kids and the 6pm time slot is kick off time...(this has been the cause of my 21b weight gain over 3 years)
Got to admit though, since cutting down I feel so so much more alive in the morning!! - do miss it though - roll on Friday night...

twogorgeousboys · 12/05/2004 10:23

Here is a perfect example of why I can't drink anymore - wrong message, wrong thread, WHAT A DOUGHNUT!

noddy5 · 12/05/2004 10:32

Feel c**p today after my skinful last night .Last memory flouncing around the bedroom in see through get up whilst dp snored on as he had to be up at 5 today.Great fun but shan't be repeating it tonight!Have been eating loads of biscuits to try and feel better.I will revert to my Friday night only regime from now on

ghengis · 12/05/2004 10:46

Lol Noddy! Been there. done that

Angeliz · 12/05/2004 10:52

Oh what a relief to read this thread

I drink a few glasses most nights,(not when dp is away and he's just gone for 3 days!).

I guess i'm the same as most here, i often think, 'i drink too much', but when dd goes to bed, come 8 o'clock the Jacobs Creek calls me

ponygirl · 12/05/2004 10:55

I too feel absolutely horrible this morning. Was incapable of doing anything constructive and dh had to get the children up/breakfast/packed lunches/ds1 to school. I did manage to take dd up to playgroup this morning, and found out that my friend is feeling equally dreadful, which made me feel slightly better! God, hangovers, when will I learn?! Definitely no more drinking til the weekend.

bootsmonkey · 12/05/2004 11:32

1 can cider & 2 glasses red wine (always a good combination!) Feel fresh as a crushed daisy.

beachyhead · 12/05/2004 13:07

must admit, I'm very envious of you 2 glass a night people .I'm with janh on this one, its either close to a bottle or nothing with me. Also should never crack it open until the monitor has gone quiet!!!! Best way is just not to have it in the house, unless you are prepared to drink it. I try for at least 3/4 clear nights a week. dh not that helpful as he always buys wine in bottles of 2. Have been better recently and just having a beer, but you know its not the same.....

Branster · 12/05/2004 13:24

am i the only one who doesn't drink?? i have loads of drinks in the house (wines, beer, wisky, gin, martini, vodka etc etc -loads of evrything) and i never feel like drinking. i probably have 1 bottle of white wine and 4 beers during a whole year. now you'll think i'm a really boring person! i'm actually quite embarred when having to fill in questionnairs at the doctor's and have to put down nil at units of alcohol consumed during the week

Grommit · 12/05/2004 13:27

I have one glass of wine every night to recover from the day! Don't let myself go over 1 glass in case I need to drive to hospital or something in middle of night! DH works away during the week

LucyJones · 12/05/2004 16:58

Oops, it's not even 5pm and I've opened my first bacradi breezer of the night - don't usually drink them but they're in the house! In my defence it has been a trying day - 6 week old ds sicked up on his play gym and then rolled in it, then weed at baby clinic and his durr-brain mother had no spare clothes so he had to come home trouserless

sandyballs · 12/05/2004 21:17

Best part of a bottle of white last night and on my third glass of red this evening ... and it hasn't even been a hard day, girls have been gorgeous, were fast asleep by 6.15, unheard of!!

Janh · 12/05/2004 21:24

This is one of my nights on...have just started 2nd bot of Tesco Aussie Shiraz...tsk tsk.

Feeling very mellow though

marthamoo · 12/05/2004 21:30

I am having a very civilised vodka and tonic (I even put ice and lemon in it!) Dh and I said we weren't drinking til the weekend..oh well, we had last night off.

Janh · 12/05/2004 21:39

Oh, MM, I don't think a very civilised v & t even counts as drinking really!

motherinferior · 12/05/2004 22:27

My cousin has been round for a meal and a few glasses...I'm on MN instead of having another glass!

Earlybird · 12/05/2004 22:56

I'm a single mum, and don't ever drink at home on my own for a couple of reasons. First - because I know I am solely responsible for dd should anything happen, and secondly because both my parents had pretty severe drink problems. If there's anything to the theory that offspring of alcoholics can be genetically predisposed to alcoholism, I want to tip the scales away from that tendency - hence, abstaining is my way of life when I'm home alone with dd. Also, it goes to my head so quickly, that I don't have a nice mellow feeling - just realise how tired I am and want to go to bed! I do enjoy a nice glass of wine when I'm out with friends - but usually only have one drink because then I'm driving!

hatter · 14/05/2004 13:05

Someone suggested getting cheap wine in order to cut down - I'd suggest the opposite. Acquire a taste for stupidly expensive stuff that you can only afford one or two bottles a week of. Open it/them at the weekend as a real treat to enjoy together, and you'll soon loose your ability to sip cheap stuff during the week. Perfect - spend the same amount of money as if you drank all week, but drink less, drink better, enjoy it, learn about it (an optional extra: you can see how exciting my weekends are)and only feel groggy on Sunday mornings.

Alternatively you could try a return to the binge drinking of younger years. Not entirely sure what overcame me but I spent Wednesday night in a stupidly trendy London bar full of suits (except me in jeans)consuming vast amounts of wine til 1 am with a bunch of non-parent friends. What was that all about? Haven't behaved like that for about 4 years. But it's definitely put me off any drink for a good few weeks. On school nights anyway...

mambo · 14/05/2004 17:38

Is it beer o'clock ? Must be weekend now for all you midweek abstainers

OP posts:
Janh · 14/05/2004 18:52

It's also weekend for the midweek drinkers

mambo · 14/05/2004 18:57

I have been very bad sahm today I have done nothing except sit at computer. Although I have just made perfect cheese sauce while drinking nice cold bottle of Kronenbourg

I abstained last night. Felt much better for it. Dp came in through the door tonight and made me a V&T and I feel much better for that, too.

Actually, Hatter, I totally agree about the nice booze route. DP however tends to feel that the solution is nice booze...all the time. I cannot understand why he is not a complete degenerate soak. Somehow he can have a civilised couple of glasses and then stop. How?
