SURELY man didn't really land on The Moon? It was 1969 fgs, they didn't even have remotes without wires...

We watched Independence Day last night (I like it and Bill Pullen as pres) and Dh and I agreed that surely the moon landings were a hoax. In 1969 there were no mobile phones, cds, remotes without wires, all sorts of other technologically advanced stuff. Computers were massive things with TAPES.

Surely we didn't really land on The Moon? Or am I being completely naive/stupid/technologically dense?

If we did, someone please explain HOW we did it with 1969 technology. TIA.

total bollocks imo. no way they could have done it.

they can barely do it now with all the modern technology available to them!

oxidisedteddy · 27/11/2006 23:03

This is what really happened to the Mars probes

UnquietDad · 27/11/2006 23:05

It's the conspiracy theories that are total bollocks.

Here's just one of many sites rebutting them.

oxidisedteddy · 27/11/2006 23:05

Of course there's a Di conspiracy story in the Express - it's Monday.

WWW.... Independence Day is one of my favourite films. Whenever it comes on I can say the lines almost word for word. The kids hate me. But hey......... the Americans saved the world.....again!!!!!!!!!!!! What did the British commander say........... "'Bout bloody time!" lol

Pann · 28/11/2006 00:11

I too remain sceptical.

All of that money and effort, and not one peice of cheese to show for it....

WideWebWitch · 28/11/2006 08:14

Ha ha, thanks for all this! I never was going to be the type of person who understood the moon landings, I don't understand how planes fly or ships float either, was useless at physics!

People didn't have mobile phones in the 70s either, but look what voyager was able to accomplish? Was that a hoax too? How else would they have gotten pictures and information like that?
Have you seen the Apollos, they hardly look state of the art. I think they happened ok. To much at risk if they faked it and were found out.

lorina · 28/11/2006 09:02

Whats it got to do with mobile phones and other wireless technology ?!

Or do you think a spacecraft should be plugged into nasa and have a long wire that extends to the moon ?

I can drive my car from here to france because it doesnt have to be plugged into my house

Everyone expressing doubt is kidding right??

If you think they couldnt get to the moon with 1960's technology then how do you reckon the Romans had a civilization with Bc technology?

WideWebWitch · 28/11/2006 09:04

well, true lorina. And the pyramids and cathedrals etc, all built by aliens (I'm joking).

Am I the only person in the world who has never thought about this? WWW, I look forward to your thought provoking [hmmm] posts this week.
Maybe you should go back to work

lorina · 28/11/2006 09:09

I'm hopeless at being able to tell if its a wind up when I cant see someones face !{grin]

southeastastra · 28/11/2006 09:23

this site is good check out the view of the earth from the moon

WideWebWitch · 28/11/2006 09:26

Oh lorina, I really wasn't winding anyone up, I absolutely don't understand how we could have gone to The Moon, honestly!

ha ha Winnie, I have ALL week off and have very nearly completed my Christmas shopping and preparation for dd's birthday on Thursday. Mostly without my arse leaving this chair

They better bleedin' HAD have done!!!
Mum went in labour with me HOURS before it was due to be televised and dad missed it. He's never let me forget I made him miss the moon landing - and then couldn't be arsed coming out until the Wednesday after

Cappuccino · 28/11/2006 09:33

surely if they were going to hoax going to the moon they would have carried on

you know, hoax Mars, hoax Saturn (with pictures of people in spacesuits going round the gaseous ring on a snowboard)

if you do something that successful you'd want to go to the next level

CatBert · 28/11/2006 09:42

The thing is - they didn't go back to the moon again because it's just a big bloody boring rock in space. Nothing there. Now if they had found OIL there - you can bet your bottom dollar that it would look like a real piece of swiss cheese by now, and a macdonalds would have opened on it.

However - if they ever do space holidays to the moon - i'm booking my seat...

I am LOL here at the idea that the moon and space doesn't exist! Even though you can SEE IT!

Perhaps it's all just a holographic projection by the aliens who gave us velcro!

CatBert · 28/11/2006 09:43

And let's remember that most governments cannot cover their arses with both hands... Let alone cover up something this big...

And that the so-called shadow "evidence" is believed by people who forget that there are TWO light sources on the moon - the SUN and the EARTH...

I must go now. I am getting all riled up here!

NotQuiteCockney · 28/11/2006 09:48

Should I point out here that DH's book explaining the real conspiracies behind the conspiracies (JFK and Marilyn still alive, space not existing) is a fiction book.

These conspiracies are so so serious, nobody can even discuss them without pretending to kid, can they ...

southeastastra · 28/11/2006 09:51

yes it would have come out eventually if it were a hoax, buzz and all wouldn't be here either, they'd have been bumped off a la Capricorn One.

SaintGeorge · 28/11/2006 09:56

Err Catbert, they did go back. 5 more times.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/11/2006 11:00

Am PMSL at this thread a bit. DH is planning to come on and rant at some point, I think.

Buzz did punch someone rather hard for suggesting that it was all a hoax.

Troutpout · 28/11/2006 11:04

lol i love mumsnet

Tinker · 28/11/2006 12:47

"I am LOL here at the idea that the moon and space doesn't exist! Even though you can SEE IT!" Most of space is invisible though isn't it?

I love physics, which I'd had a decent teacher and then I would have carried on.

Read the Right Stuff, great, great book. The Apollo missions were on a relative shoestring. If you can get a man into space (Alan Shepherd, John Glenn) then getting them to the moon isn't so difficult. It was getting them back that was trickier
