Ds1 really wants to be a pilot.
He has asthma...well controlled, but he only has 80% lung function.
I have been doing a bit of research and.....He can't be a pilot :(

I am not sure you have to Bads, researching their own careers and working it out is important as they find solutions too and it isn't dream shattering in that way and as parents we just put as many opportunities their way as possible.

It won't improve.
It's well controlled but he won't gain lung function as he gets older.

I have world spinning too fast trouble at the moment. I'm always busy but I have too many random variables with boys here there and everywhere and I've only just realised ds4 is off on cub camp on Friday and I have stuff I need to get him. Bollocks. And I'm working late tomorrow so now just starting to look at the kit list and get him to try and find stuff. Argh.

Of course you can. It will expose him to other things to do with aviation and you can cultivate other interests too. DS2 us talking about being an actor. I have been telling him about Cinn's job and he has shown loads of interest in the extras of TM so it is now an interest in the industry. DS1 was for years desperate to be a footballer, played all the time, studied the tables, the history, the planning everything. Exposed him to sports journalism and other careers associated all in a passive way and he eventually discovered himself that he prob isn't cut out for football but still writes and involves himself in other ways and plays.

DC job aspirations - Badders my DS wants to be a superhero we're trying to steer him in the direction that he'll need a 'cover' job so no-one knows who he is...

Ds1 is also interested in battle reenactment and I know someone who does it so hopefully taking him to see them in September

You've not missed it Madame I just hadn't mentioned it. Something to do with cartilidge being out of position and needing to be moved - ick He should be in and out in the day... also need to ferry DS to Summer Camp activity thing, so may have some work time as well...

I just think if we squash their dreams now they have no opportunity to explore related areas. The disappointment that comes on slowly whilst provided alternatives has to be preferable to shock disapointment if you know what I mean.

I am sure he will be fine Badds. Try not to worry.

Agree with all other wenches, let him join cadets, there's plenty else he can get out of it. Plus if you tell him about the pilot business, he'll probably just see it as you pissing on his chips. He'll find out soon enough & hopefully in doing the research might find something else he'd prefer to do.

Blacksmith was recently mentioned too. I will support them and help them to achieve whatever they want but I fully expect DS1 to go something academic like archaeology - apparently he is doing a combined history and geography degree and it's possible DS3 might join the mafia or something. I will be less supportive of that.
