Cn you contact the landlord and tell them about it?

libb · 10/05/2004 12:45

That is disgusting! I definitely wouldn't be happy about it - it has to be a health risk surely? it may not attract just foxes either!
Just think, come high Summer the smell will be lovely!

Perhaps you could have a word with your local council before approaching them in person?

Could you go and tell them about the fox problem so it comes across as being friendly rather than you complaining? I've had to clear up a fox-shredded nappy and it's not nice!

It is hard to say something when you have only just met them! I'm not sure I would've either, despite feeling so strongly about the dirty nappies.

Maybe they are waiting for bin day but even so, putting them somewhere contained wouldn't hurt them! our old neighbour used to throw the chicken carcass from Sunday lunch out onto the lawn and all the local cats would feed on it - luckily we didn't have to present him with the vets bill for bones stuck in our cat's throat!

littlemissbossy · 10/05/2004 13:02

wish i'd read this after eating my lunch, feel sick now. have you had the new neighbour/what day is bin day chat yet? if not, you could use this as an excuse to cover the "do not leave ANY rubbish in your garden or you'll get foxes or even worse RATS... you filthy horrible people"

SoupDragon · 10/05/2004 13:06

"Oh, I meant to warn you about leaving rubbish bags outside. We had a fox shred a load of dirty nappies last summer and the mess was indescribable. It took ages to clear up. We make sure everything is put in the dustbin now."

That might work

Also as its technically illegal to dispose of human waste via the dustman, you could mention that LOL
we keep ours outside (we use mostly reuseables) we keep the used disposables in a nappy bin, we are quite used to lobbing them downstairs but would never ever leave them outside like that.

maisystar · 10/05/2004 21:19

how long do they actually leave them outside for?

apart from the fox thing i dont think this is that bad(am vaguely worried that i have really low standards was previously unaware of!).

when the cat was tiny and not allowaed out i used to drop(not chuck) nappies in bags and (may never be able to speak on mn again) cat litter tray contents(in double bags) out of the kitchen window (if opened door cat/ds would try to escape) and then put them in the bin when i went out.

IS this really bad?!? (nervously awaiting responses)

maisystar · 10/05/2004 21:54

oh dear

butwhatdoiknow · 10/05/2004 22:11

Ha ha,

I am your neighbour.

We will stop if it bothers you.

Was nice to see you today anyway.

We are not offended!

eddm · 10/05/2004 22:24

I remember in the first MN book there was someone on the Sangenic thread who said she lobbed dirty nappy bags out of the window and picked them up and put them in the bin when she went outside. Maybe she's your new neighbour

butwhatdoiknow....are you really Galaxy's neighbour? If so , how funny!

maisystar · 10/05/2004 23:01

dinosaur, was getting worried.........!!

jodee · 11/05/2004 00:13

Very funny! .... unhygenic, but funny!
Must admit we used to lob the occasional nappy sack down the stairs (the narrow, enclosed type) and woe betide the cat if she should have picked that moment to walk from the lounge to the dining room. (They always went straight in the bin the moment the hit the floor, though, ahem.)

misdee · 11/05/2004 08:01

oh yuk. my neighbours here are yukky with nappies as well. the bin store is outside my front door. just after we moved here about 5 used nappies appeared outside the bin store, not wrapped or anything. one of the other neighbours asked if they were mine, as i am the only one on this side with a baby, but i just showed them my piles of tots bots and said i didnt use disposables.

Branster · 11/05/2004 09:08

i haven't read this thread so far thinking 'fling nappies' was a metaphorical expression of some sort, but this am curriosity got the better of me. hey, maybe your neighbours are clenaer than all of us because 1) they go through so many nappies a day 2) don't like keeping used nappies in the house. Maybe they collect them for some enviromentally friendly reason (i.e. there's a special place where they take these nappies to be incinerated so they collect all of them in a special bag). just kidding. you can only laugh at this stage. But i can sympathise with your annoyance because it's so odd what they're doing. And it's occured to tell them about it, isn't it. I really hate dog poo on public walkays (pavements, grass on the side of the road etc) and saw a neighbour the other day not picking up afrer her dog. she's a very nice lady and i know her a little bit and although i was right there in front of her when it happened, and it did annoy me and couldn't say anything to her because for some reason i felt embarressed by her action (or lack of it rather).

Flip · 11/05/2004 09:21

You're not on your own Maisystar. If ds2 has done a dirty then it goes in a bag and get's chucked out of the back door. They then sit there until I next go out and round them up and put them in the bin. Likewise if we are upstairs they go out of the bathroom window and drop outside the backdoor.

I currently have a bag of dirty clothes outside the front door that belong to ds1 who dirtied his pants yesterday at school and didn't bother to tell anyone until he wet them later at home and piddled on my bed! They are waiting to go to my mums to be washed because my washer is still broke. So anything offencive in the house does get chucked outside until a suitable time.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2004 09:25

We used to throw nappies own the stairs into the hall for collation later. I also used to leave them on the front doorstep and take them out to the dustbin later but they were never there long. I can't quite imagine throwing them out of an upstairs window into the garden though!
