Can I have a definitive answer to "what is the cheapest - time switch or leaving the boiler on all the time" please?

Is there a definitive answer?

Everyone's horrified that I'm leaving my boiler on all the time (just turning it down at night and up again in the morning) but I keep reading/ hearing that that is the cheapest. Then people look horrified and I get uneasy.

Who knows?

That should cover a new 'stat nicely

I presume backing a 50:1 means he seriously knows / enjoys his horseracing ?

We've had huge heating problems since we replaced the system that was here (some sort of high pressure tank?). Apparently the boiler outlet pipe is illegal and the fumes go back down the pipe and put out the pilot light. We were quoted some ridiculous figure to fix it (£3k ish). Just means that the heating goes off completely most of the time, especially overnight, which also means no hot water in the mornings.

Because of that we've left the immersion on this winter but I'm conscious that the bills will be huge. Also worried about the pump being on most of the time with no heat output.

Any ideas?

How long is the length of flue, evenhope ? 3K to replace a flue sounds unreal. I think it is possible to get assisted flues too (it sounds like yours is not extracting sufficient output gasses so some sensors extinguishes the boiler for safety).

The immersion should be on a timer otherwise your leccy bill will be ginormous.

yep, hub. he's semi-pro. with the emphasis on semi. writes about gambling. he
actually i double-checked that bet with him and i'd misheard. turns out it was 5-1. but he did still win a ton (as they say in betting parlance, wan undred) so he must've put a twenty on.

The boiler sits side on to the external wall so we are only talking about a length from the boiler through the wall. We are in a staggered terrace and the flue comes out too close to the corner (where the walls form an L shape).

So what does someone want to do for 3K ? Same exit hole plus large run up I presume ? Or is the only solution to resite ? I didn't know L positions were a problem... I mean, surely if it get's outside there would be enough air flow around the flue exit to evacuate the exhaust vapour ?

I assume they want to resite. This was British Gas on their last inspection (we have the insurance scheme).
