slippers

I said to dh yesterday in a tea room in Kendal. It just came out, out of nowhere really. He managed to refrain from spraying his tea on the other diners!

ROFL!!!!

Ds3 is addicted to his slippers, even though they are hand me down (like most of his attire, poor little urchin)

Miaou · 07/11/2006 23:14

Ah yes

I remember one winter my mum couldn't afford to replace our slippers - you'd think the world had come to an end...

SparklyGothKat · 07/11/2006 23:15

dd1 went to sleep with her slippers on today lol

JoolsToo · 07/11/2006 23:33

little red bootee ones from Mothercare - same every year - blue edging they had

I very rarely had slippers when I was little. Not because we couldn't afford them but just because I didn't wear them, prefered to be in socks or bare feet.

I didn't actually start wearing them constantly in the house until I had dd1 and had to buy a pair for going into hospital, now I can't bear to be without them.

dd1 has slippers but hardly wears them prefers bare feet and dd2 doesn't have any yet but I'm going to get her some for christmas but she seems to be following her sister and prefers to go around in bare feet.

Tortington · 08/11/2006 00:28

pmsl

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2006 00:47

I had them in blue with red edging, joolstoo, my little sister had the red ones. and do you remember how funny they smelled by the end of the year?

ProfYaffle · 08/11/2006 07:02

Oh I hate slippers, much prefer bare feet and so does dd. However, dh's stinginess with the heating mean I'm forced to either wear them or get frostbite. DD is still refusing to wear them though.

I had those slippers too and the red ladybird dressing gown with ladybird buttons.

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2006 12:50

ooooh, get you..! (actually that's ringing some bells for me too. )
as i recall, those slippers smelled increasingly of sweaty cardboard and digestive biscuits the longer they were worn. or was that just me?

JoolsToo · 08/11/2006 15:23

pmsl! no it wasn't just you!

DD is rather keen on her slippers. She has new Clarks ones (from outlet though) this time. Her previous pair were hand me downs from her friend but Dora which obviously has to count for something. DS OTOH is a bit of a slipper refusenik.

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2006 15:40

thank god it wasn't just me, i remember the smell so distinctly. do you remember how wet your feet got inside those things when you pointed your feet at the fire? (maybe that was just me...)

JoolsToo · 08/11/2006 16:32

oh Aitch you're on form

No I don't remember that wet feeling my dcs were wearing the slippers not me! pmsl

both my dses are slipperless - they are both refuseniks

JoolsToo · 08/11/2006 16:42

thing is when we were poor, we didn't have central heating or fitted carpets, that may have something to do with it.

Although, I can't be without my slippers to this day

pointydog · 08/11/2006 17:43

jools

slippers have never come high on my list of priorities. You sweaty-footed slipper-hugger.

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2006 20:19

we didn't have central heating in them there days, just an enormous fire in the front room. hence my corned beef legs...

VanillaMilkshake · 08/11/2006 20:52

Yep, always slippers and a dressing gown. there is a picture of me, agd about 3 standing in the back doorway wearing a red nylon quilted dressing gown and some funny looking slippers that might have been trying to be mice - well it was 1978 ! And the toilet was still in the garden !

DD has 2 pairs of slippers and two dressing gowns. Slipper socks work best for her though. Woolies has some nice chucnky knit ones with mice on the end - ooh I wonder if I bought them for her while subconciously thinkng of mine?

By 'eck we had fun. Thrashing about under the covers so my nylon nightie would make sparks rubbing against the nylon sheets. That's how we got warm in the olden days.

(What decade are we talking about?)
