slippers

I said to dh yesterday in a tea room in Kendal. It just came out, out of nowhere really. He managed to refrain from spraying his tea on the other diners!

I'm talking about the 70's. The electric blanket era

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2006 21:03

70s in my case. i should say that we moved house when i was about 8 and got central heating when i was nine. i think my mother switched it on for an hour every day, to heat up the water for her nightly bath. the rest of the time we just obeyed the order to 'put another jumper on'.

VanillaMilkshake · 08/11/2006 21:08

Am doing that myself this year After all DD has 2 dressing gowns anyway .

I have to say we are a household full of fleecy and wooly blankets - which we call day blankets, for snuggling up in before the heating comes on. We also like our microwave beddybear (mine) and ladybird (DD's)

Our house was so bad that mum and dad had a hole in thier bedroom wall from damp, you could look out on to the street through it, so they had a massive big travelling trunk in front of the hole. God you dont realise just how lucky you are these days do you?

The 70s were just so electricity, weren't they?

VanillaMilkshake · 08/11/2006 21:10

Yep and we're paying for it now!

AitchTwoOh · 09/11/2006 19:18

we so are, vanillamilkshake. i remember being 7 and the teacher saying that in thirty years time we would have run out of coal and be on our way out of oil. she told us not to worry, however, as the scientists would have come up with something better in the meantime. she's probably now working as a special energy adviser to george bush...

JoolsToo · 09/11/2006 19:20

oh don't turn my beautiful slipper thread into an energy debate just stock up on more slippers and fleecy dressing gowns!

jools - you're messing with my head - I found myself looking at kids slippers when I was shopping in town today

pointydog · 10/11/2006 08:11

If I'm going to put anything on my feet in the house I have some rather attractive slipper socks. dds have some very lovely slipper socks. And you can wash 'em so they don't stink.

VanillaMilkshake · 10/11/2006 11:32

Well so as not to turn this in to an energy debate, lets start promoting slippers and dressing gowns! Everyone should have at least 2 of each! And some nice fleecy blankets for wrapping up in.

We have a Disney Princess blaket for DD, a pink IKEA blanket for me, as well as a purple fleece shawl - in preperation for midnight feeds with my new DC in December. And DH who tries not to sucumb has a tarten travel rug - giving him the appearance of a pensior on Brighton promonade !
He also has some Homer Simpson slippers, but only uses them to go up in the loft, prefering his slipper socks at all other times.

How many pairs of slipper socks do you all have - and how many pairs of bed socks? - which can be worn inside regular slippers for extra cosyness
