Am I the only digital refusnik left? It's lonely.

I don't have a freeview receiver.
I don't have cable
I don't have satellite
I don't, for snooty moral high horse reasons, have Sky.

I just have the 5 bog-standard channels. And I don't think I'm missing out (but wouldn't mind BBC4 )

The more I hear of the analogue signal being switched off the more determined I am to dig my heels in and tell any government to get stuffed. Pay ME if you want me to watch tv.

Am I all alone out here?

but tinker, if you don't object to an analogue aerial on your house to receive free-to-air channels, why would you object to a receiver to receive free-to-air channels? Is it the form of the signal that concerns you? Are you still clinging on to an analogue mobile phone the size of a brick?!!!

internet is digital btw

charliecat · 30/04/2004 12:50

Stay as you are, I upgraded to free view about 6 months ago and apart from Who rules the roost and little angels on bbc3 and cbeebies in a rush when i cant be bothered to stick a video in it doesnt get watched. I still watch all the five free ones more often.

Tinker · 30/04/2004 12:51

pph - ain't got a mobile phone Work insisted I have one, but they've now chnaged their mind about that too.

Tinker, I don't have any of those things either, partly as a reaction to having a million chaneels of crappy US TV where I was living before.

I am thinking of giving in though, as I want to be able to watch a lot more sport this summer than I will get on the five current channels.

by the way, I onlyhave a 14" portable TV as well.

Tinker · 30/04/2004 12:53

Me too re 14" telly

roisin · 30/04/2004 12:56

Tinker - we don't have these either. We only have a small tv, and it isn't on much anyway. When we want to watch telly, there's plenty to choose from the regular channels.

AlanP · 30/04/2004 15:05

We only have the freeview box, but its still amazing how many times that the two things that you want to watch are on at the same time.

BTW still mainly watch the 5 main channels.

Kids like the music channels

Nutcracker · 30/04/2004 17:05

We don't either. Not cos we don't want it though.
We aren't allowed to have sky dishes on the side of the flats and we had cable ages ago and got p**d off with them taking channels off and increasing the price.

We were going to get a freeview box but when we checked our postcode it said we wouldn't get very good reception, so we aren't going to bother until we move.

I really want bbc3 so i can watch that Little angels and Who rules the roost programme.

Bozza · 01/05/2004 15:01

Have got Freeview but only because we inherited PIL's old ITV Digital box when ITV Digital went bust and they upgraded to Sky. Glad we didn't pay for it because we hardly use it - not even Cbeebies much.

Tinker · 01/05/2004 22:33

Gosh, there's not many of us are there. We must stand together

OP posts:
moodyzebra · 01/05/2004 22:45

We don't even have a telly. Neener neener...
Do intend to buy a digital radio receiver sometime, though.

marthamoo · 01/05/2004 22:46

No telly. I am struck dumb with admiration. It is my Number One parenting tool

marthamoo · 01/05/2004 22:47

We bought a freeview box today....

Tinker · 01/05/2004 23:05

It was dh's idea....

tatcity · 01/05/2004 23:22

Tinker - good for you - I aspire to not having it - mainly due to bloody Boomerang and Nick Junior outrageous advertising aimed at kids. Unfortunately DH cannot do without Sky sports - so I'm stuck with it for the moment. Believe me, you are not missing out on anything!

spacemonkey · 01/05/2004 23:24

I used to have everything with bells and whistles on until dp moved out a few weeks ago - now have bog standard 5 channels and I hardly ever watch those!

Don't miss it at all. Except for the Trisha repeats on ITV2 ...

and Balamory ...

kittyb · 01/05/2004 23:50

I got a digital radio for christmas - its okay but not as good as I hoped - dont have sky, and must admit I am a bit of a snob about it. Youngsters from work were round recently laughed at my black ash telly - they're all silver these days - on button has broken so its sellotaped in with cardboard, now I'm not replacing it out of stubornness

carla · 02/05/2004 00:06

We've only got one 14 inch telly too, but Godforsake me if I was expected to do without Cbeebies for all (or, ahem, part) of the day!

noddy5 · 02/05/2004 08:35

we have freeview and thats it.Had sky or something like in a previous house for a few months(free) and it was rubbish! We don't really watch many channels but bbc3/4 and love sky news!

WideWebWitch · 02/05/2004 20:55

Hey Tinks, nope, we don't have anything except the bog standard FOUR channels - we couldn't get channel 5 in Devon and thought oooh, wow, we'll get one more channel when we move but nope, we're in a reception dip here and don't get it in the city either. Very irritating but sure we're not missing much. I do have a mobile phone within reach at pretty much all times though.

Bozza · 02/05/2004 21:00

DH is complaining that the ITV digital box is ugly and suggesting that we upgrade to a more aesthetically pleasing box (ie lets waste £50 or whatever it costs). I have agreed on the condition that we also upgrade the PS2 (which for some reason looks like a fan heater I had at university) to something prettier - like an empty space for instance.

serenequeen · 02/05/2004 21:03

we recently got freeview for cbeebies and that's pretty much all we watch apart from v. occasionally bbc4. i can't believe how much people shell out for pay tv, though, there's tons of rubbish and i think we watch enough as it is from the bog standard five.

WSM · 02/05/2004 21:06

Am a true child of the digital age !

*Digi box for tv (2 of)
*Digital camera
*Digital video camera
*Digital cordless phones (4 of)

Cam · 04/05/2004 13:21

Tinker, can I be in your gang!
Only 4 channels, can't receive Channel 5 near the Channel! Reason: we watch enough tv already.
I also don't have a video player. Reason: I hate videos.
