If you were on a crowded TUBE train and were asked to get up for a child that was about to faint......would you do it?

This morning we took Kangaboy to hospital to see Electrocardiophysiologists

He fainted last night and this morning was still unstable and wobbly

Anyway when we got on the tube train to go to Hospital it was packed and people were standing

After about 15 minutes of standing luckily someone got off and kangaboy was able to sit down

But before that he was as white as a sheet and he said he thought he was going to faint

IT was a fast train and so didn't stop at any stations - ie we couldn't get off.

So how would you feel if you were asked to get up for an 11 year old to sit down - cos he was about to faint???

without a doubt I would get up

katzg · 06/11/2006 13:19

i'd have stood up and given up my seat,

amynnixmum · 06/11/2006 13:19

I'd get up and let him sit down.

Twiglett · 06/11/2006 13:19

fine

did you ask someone or just stand there waiting to be offered?

tube-goers have perfected the art of not noticing other passengers .. so I bet few people actually heard / noticed him

Twiglett · 06/11/2006 13:19

what did the electrocardiowhatsits say?

hulababy · 06/11/2006 13:20

If I'd been asked, then I would definitely get up for him, yes.

Of course I would.

NomDePlume · 06/11/2006 13:21

I agree with dino.

beansprout · 06/11/2006 13:21

Tube goers are perfectly capable of ignoring 9 month pregnant women IME so a pale 11 year old will never get their attention. I used to ask and most people are fine about it. If they aren't, they publicly shame themselves so it's a bit of a win-win

FawkesyFimbo · 06/11/2006 13:21

Yes. On a crowded tube in the summer, a lady got up and give her seat to me so I could sit ds on my lap for which I was very grateful.

BudaBeast · 06/11/2006 13:21

Would def get up if asked - or even if not asked, if I noticed. I used to read on the train/tube so didn't look around much.

RTKangaMummy · 06/11/2006 13:21

How would you choose who to ask to get up?

Obviously not an old or preggers person or diabled or with a baby

But these were all commuters

so we were so lucky he got a seat when he did cos otherwise he would have probably fainted again

I always get up for the elderly

In fact I had a go at some teenagers on Saturday for not giving their seats up
Hope Kanga boy is OK

busybusymum · 06/11/2006 13:23

of course!

nannyme · 06/11/2006 13:24

As mother to mes petites enfants, if one of them was feeling dicky I'd demand that someone moved their backside and wouldn't wait for the offer...it may never come.

NomDePlume · 06/11/2006 13:24

RTKM - I would ask the person nearest to KangaBoy so long as they were not in obvious need of the seat.

MrsBadger · 06/11/2006 13:24

Would of course have got up if asked, but (shame) would be unlikely to notice someone standing was pale and offer spontaneously.

TheHighwayCod · 06/11/2006 13:25

no
did he know?

beansprout · 06/11/2006 13:25

Most trains have designated seats, usually by the doors with "please give up this seat for an elderly person or someone who needs it" type sticker above it. I just go for the bloke who just looks like he is on his way to his cushy office job.

MrsBadger · 06/11/2006 13:26

oh, and I'd ask (non-elderly non-child-carrying) people who are sitting in the orange-stickered Priority seats. They're stickered for a reason!

TheHighwayCod · 06/11/2006 13:27

what DO oyu expect folk to say
" oh no id sit there and tell him to get on wiht it"?

RTKangaMummy · 06/11/2006 13:28

Thanks guys

We didn't ask but if there hadn't been a seat when there was we would have had to

I sort of was holding him up and I was leaning on the side where the glass windows are

I am not used to the tube and so wasn't really sure of the ettiquette iyswim

The electrocardiophysiologist said that it was a follow on from last night

He had an ECG and that was ok

He has been referred to the neurologists for brain scans and EEG next
