I am curious to see if I share my birthday with anyone. Like I'm at school again when those things were important.

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 30/10/2006 17:17

no, Twig
If you care about someone, buy them a frigging drink or a present
not a sodding card (you british people and your cards, honestly!!!)

I thought the birthday threads were really about anal bleaching [tm cod], and didn't open them, because it's not my thing.

Are they really all about people's birthdays? How strange.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/10/2006 17:19

Do the French care less about cards, Lili? My ILs are absolutely bloody mad for the things.

Oh, and I've seen people on here complain because their DH bought them a generic "happy birthday" card rather than a "happy birthday to my loving wife who has borne me two children but I wouldn't mind another" card. [bewildered emoticon]

anal what?????

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 30/10/2006 17:23

I think sadly there are now more cards and card sending occasions in France than there were before [grumpy]
but at least we don't do Xmas cards, but we do Happy New year ones in January (which takes some of the stress of Xmas off)
And I hate the whole displaying cards thing

NotQuiteCockney · 30/10/2006 17:26

Anal bleaching. TM Cod.

Greensleeves · 30/10/2006 17:27

But....but....why????

Cod is odd sometimes

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 30/10/2006 17:28

I bet you there are Happy Anal Bleaching cards somewhere

Greensleeves · 30/10/2006 17:31

MIL and her wizened cronies are very particular about cards and all the commensurate protocol.

We lived next door to one of MIL's old friends for a while (we live 200 miles away from MIL, it was a horrid coincidence!) and when ds1 was about 2mo she brought round a packet of little sleepsuits for him. They were lovely, I thanked her effusively and made sure that he was wearing one next time we saw her, at which point I thanked her again.

Two weeks later I received a snotty letter from MIL saying that our neighbour had phoned her to tell her how offended she was that we hadn't bothered to send her a "thank you card"!!!

Mind-boggling

NotQuiteCockney · 30/10/2006 17:33

Cod said once that a sizzix was some sort of anal bleaching equipment. I think it's a good explanation for anything I'm not interested in ...

Please don't let Mumsnet become an 'I need a hug' board, surely umpteen birthday greetings a day is on the same lines. That's why I came to Mumsnet!

Re cards, my inlaws always buy each other (and us) cards with the exact relationship printed on them eg Happy birthday 2nd son's new girlfriend kindathing. I guess they think that makes them extra thoughtful???

NotQuiteCockney · 30/10/2006 18:20

Oh, bucketofdinosaurs, are you having a rough day? Do you need a big big (((())))?

[sneaky running away emoticon]

DrFrankenZooey · 30/10/2006 21:41

You can buy Christmas cards both from and to your cat and dog, I noticed last year. I'm often tempted to buy one (we don't have a dog, I just think they are funny)

NotQuiteCockney · 30/10/2006 21:43

But can you get Christmas cards from your cat to your dog and vice versa? I think that would be the most English card ever.

Seriously my MIL sent DS1 a "Good luck on your first day of school, grandson" card. Sheesh.
