Cr*p wording on Stage 1 weaning food.

I'm going to write to Organix and take them to task over their wording which states "ideal from 4 months" and nothing else. Which it isn't since the ideal is to exclusively breastfeed for 6 months. (or, I assume formula feed for 6 months)

Now, before you jump on me from a great height about maternal choice blah de blah, look at these wordings from Ella's Kitchen and Plum Baby...

"The government advises that you don't need to wean your baby until 6 months. If you choose to wean earlier, my ingredients are suitable from 4 months"

"Department of Health advice is that you do not need to wean your baby until 6 months. however, if you choose to wean earlier, these ingredients are suitable from 4 months"

Both these are pretty much perfect really. Can't complain about them (bar the large "from 4 months" on the front of the Ella's Kitchen one - just putting "stage 1 weaning" would have sufficed - they have this underneath the 4 month bit. But I'll let that go... )

Also, Organix have switched their food to yoghurt pot style tubs rather than nice, easily recyclable glass. How stupid is that?

Soupy stirs it again
Bloody government & WHO! You should be allowed to wean your baby before conception if you like (on sausage rolls from greggs & cartons of ribeeeeenorrrrrr)
Agree wording should be consistent across all of the brands though

Oh, I don't have a problem with early weaning, that's not what this is about, but the Organix wording is absolutely cr*p and actually competely inaccurate going by "current" medical recommendations.

The Plum Baby one says "from 4 - 36 months" on the front where the says "see back of pack" where the wording I typed earlier appears. To me, this is pretty much ideal wording - states the facts clearly, leaving you to choose without being mislead. Saying that the food is "ideal from 4 months" is misleading at best and completely wrong at worst.

I agree with you Soupy - the labelling should be the same across the board to avoid confusion (I was kidding with the early weaning bit!). At our weaning group classes there was a woman who had started weaning her son at 11 weeks. Obviousky HV was horrified. Woman defended herself by saying "well, he dun't get up in the night no more".
Poor little lad was all grey faced & lethargic. Chroist knows what she was weaning him on

SoupDragon · 30/10/2006 14:16

Well, I've emailed them from their "contact us" bit on their website and taken them to task. I fully expect all their products to be recalled and relabelled forthwith.

Their website claims "We know that clear labelling is important too." Hahaha!

go soupy!!! isn;t it ridiculous! no wonder so much bloody confusion about weaning when the big companies are not even mirroring the correct guidlines......and at changing to plastic...which is not recyllable in our area! still, babylulu eating what we eat ( when she deigns to eat!!!)

mrsmaddyd · 30/10/2006 14:22

Well done soupdragfon, i look forward to hearing thier ans

SoupDragon · 30/10/2006 14:24

Organix.com

Feel free to join me in complaining

They may have switched to plastic for money reasons (cheaper for them) but I bet they will say it's something to do with being safe in bags etc - no accidental breakage, no chance of glass in food etc.

lulumama · 30/10/2006 14:29

hav e-mailed...........!

mamijacacalys · 30/10/2006 14:40

I'm with lulumama. DS and now DD has what we have as the savoury jars are generally tasteless!! Agree though that labelling should be clearer. So far with DD have only used a couple of fruit puree ones as standby 'going out' snacks and these taste OK.

lulumama · 30/10/2006 14:44

IMO - judging by the amount of threads on here re weaning..when to wean.,.....HV says to wean now...friends say not too...ectc...

a massive and supposedly ethically led baby food compnay should at the least convey and endorse the current DH guidlines re when to introduce solids...mind you ..if they say from 4 months...that;s an extra two months of jar purchasing they get from you...

not dissing jars -- used them for both of mine, organix & hipp...as a convenient way to feed when out and about or i;d run out of home made........

Flamebat · 30/10/2006 15:04

Emailed... also about the crappy labelling on the 4 packs.

How come "netmums" is listed on the "where you heard of us" bit??????????

SoupDragon · 30/10/2006 15:46

I think it was the fact tht it was Organix that annoyed me more than just the wording. Priding themselves on being an ethical, no junk, "clear labelling" company and all.

SoupDragon · 30/10/2006 15:47

Where's Hunkermunker anyway? It's a weaning thread!

OP posts:
madmarchscare · 30/10/2006 15:51

They do give DOH guidelines on the site though.

madmarchscare · 30/10/2006 15:53

and WHO on another part.

SoupDragon · 30/10/2006 15:55

But a mother in the supermarket generally doesn't have the internet with her and besides, that doesn't make the wording any less wrong.

It categorically states that banana porridge is ideal. And it isn't. Not at all.

madmarchscare · 30/10/2006 16:00

Dont get me wrong, I agree .

I imagine you will get a waffled responce advising you of the fact and that they are constantly looking for ways in which to beeter their products etc... Oh, and that they thank you for taking time to email them [eyerollingemotion]

hunkermunster · 30/10/2006 22:31

I'll email them after you've had your response, SD. Otherwise it looks like a "random internet nutter" campaign.

This way, it can be a tailored random internet nutter campaign, because I can email with their response in mind

I do have a problem with early weaning though. It's bonkers.

Aitchisforhalloween · 30/10/2006 22:34

really hunker? you've kept that under your hat.

hunkermunster · 30/10/2006 22:36

Have I? I thought I'd been most forthright about it.

I shall have to be more outspoken on the subject.

lulumama · 30/10/2006 22:42
hunkermunster · 30/10/2006 22:56

Not at all.

But if I'd emailed too, you would've been.
