he simply "must have these for xmas, as ALL my friends are getting them!" Nike air max ones apparently.

£90 for trainers to be worn climbing trees and skudding about on a bike. i dont think so!!!

because hes a size 6 he has tohave mens which bumps the price up, hes only 12.

ive told him a blank "no" and when hes into just posing in town and not playing out he can have some. well? would you get them?am i being a misery?

£90!!!!! Not a chance

Dd1 is 11 and if she wants that much on trainers then she has to save up and pay half!

LadyMuck · 26/10/2006 18:44

I think that it depends on what you would normally spend on his Christmas present. If you would otherwise buy him something worth £40 then "no" is the obvious answer. If the alternative is say £100 worth of PSP games, then I think that at 12 he is old enought to choose. I agree that it is not value for money, but neither is the £50 Barbie Hot Tub Party bus that ds2 has set his heart on...

Have a look on M and M direct. They may have them alot cheaper. They do reduced price brand clothes.here
No way i would spend that much. I wouldn't even spend that on me!

7up · 26/10/2006 18:46

am with LadyMuck on this one.

Piffle · 26/10/2006 18:48

nope head off to tx maxx for some really funky trainers at ahlf pice often have decent Nike ones in their
But I tell ds I do not buy Nike in principle as they are unfair trade and use child labour
Thats shuts him up

juuule · 26/10/2006 18:50

Try Ebay. Ds gets his off there.

LadyMuck · 26/10/2006 18:51

Admittedly ds2 is only 3 - I suspect that I'll have a different reaction if it is what he wants at 12.

7up · 26/10/2006 18:52

he wants the nike air tracksuit as well as a mobile phone. dont know about other mums and family gifts but i always feel pressured to spend loads cause he only gets 1 other present of 1 grandma/grandad (mine). much easier when they younger and not affected by "trend" and "advertising"

have similar situation only with my 12 year old ds but it's hats - those American baseball caps. Brand new ones can be as much as £25.00. He gets them on ebay for less, but still wants more - why!!!

He is into some odd (to me) and expensive clothing so what I have done this year is tell him how much birthday or christmas present money he has and he is free to spend it - after listening to my views on his choice of course. I have also said that to him that if he really wants a pair of fashion trainers, christmas is the time to ask for them as there is no way I would be buying him a pair otherwise.

So, if you would be spending £90.00 on your ds at christmas, and he REALLY wants these trainers, let him have them, but only after he has thought about it a lot and rejected all other suggestions.

At age 12 IMO he is old enough to know his own mind when it comes to presents.

I would not spend £90.00 on a pair of normal trainers because my ds actually needed a pair. The £90.00 trainers are pure indulgence - an ideal christmas gift, then.

threebob · 26/10/2006 19:01

If he was the school athletics champion - yes.

To be like his mates - no.

which air max does he want exactly? are they the 360's, the '95's or the TN's because if so my sister can usually get them for £35-40.

cos she is a stewardess she has lots of freinds all over the world who can get things duty free and obviously in the states Nike are much much cheaper.

my brother just bought a pair of trainers that he saw in the shop for £130 for £40.

Frogdelalune · 26/10/2006 19:07

No way would I pay £90 for trainers, that's obscene. But then again no way would I pay £90 for any item of clothing.

LIZS · 26/10/2006 19:10

tbh if you need to ask or it is beyond what you might pay for any single items as a present it probably is too much. Sod's laws his feet will grow so they won't last long , or the "in" colourway will change.

7up · 26/10/2006 19:15

batymuma its the95s apparently

gscrym · 26/10/2006 19:27

Get BATtymumma's contact to get them for cheaper than the £90 and then spend the difference on a nice massage or something in the sales for you. Everyone's a winner!

7up · 26/10/2006 19:47

yea thats the ones, ive never been on ebay, can you actually buy them for £34.99 onit or is there a catch?

OP posts:
juuule · 26/10/2006 19:53

We've bought them from Ebay before (think it might even have been that seller) and not had any problems. Seems okay to us
