really? just me, then?

it's a bit like the mooncup thing, they're better for the environment so you buy one. and then you realise they are better than the products you've previously been using. and then you realise that one stick lasts over a year. and then you feel like a right mug for having shelled out a fortune on expensive deodorants that don't work and leave marks on your clothes...

and then you think 'i wonder if everyone on mumsnet knows about them?' iimploreyoutoignorethename

can i just ask to clarify? with these new fangled deoderants, do you get wet pits showing through your clothes?

notsogummyanymaaargh · 21/10/2006 22:00

am only asking cos i'm thnking of trying?

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2006 22:02

Not if you find one that works for you, IME

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 22:03

well, notsogummy, they aren't anti-perspirants, just deodorants. HOWEVER, i have always wondered if they have to say that for some legal reason as i find that i am much less wet using the salt deod. i really have tried every damn anti-persp deod on the market adn think these are the best by a country mile. i've converted all my family and a lot of my friends.

ta! been looking for an alternative to spray ons, which are very effective but sooo gassy.

jabberwocky · 22/10/2006 14:11

I found that there was sort of an interesting "withdrawal" period from regular deodorant/anti-persperant. It seemed for a time that I sweated more and it smelled rather strange, then things settled out.

Anyone else notice this or am I just weird?

AlfredAitchcock · 22/10/2006 14:20

now that you mention it...

so in boots are they by the other deodrants etc or somewhere else in the store.

I can't use perfumed ones as armpits just swell and really hurt. So this would be good for me.

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 22/10/2006 14:54

Havnt read thread (sorry ) but just to say I gave my DS 7 this as I felt it was a good choice for kids .

Lilymaid · 22/10/2006 15:15

I bought one called "The Original Crystal Deodorant" from John Lewis at least 2 years ago and it is still going strong. I put it on every day straight after a shower and am amazed that I got through those hot summer days - commuting through and out of London - without reeking to high heaven. It comes in a snazzy blue plastic casing and after two years I still have about half left.

I've been using Pitrok for ages (and I'm PG so v. sweaty).

Thing is I've bought two, and both times the casing smashed within a week. (I drop things alot and the bathroom floor is very hard). So you end up with a lump of salt sitting in a cup in the cupboard, which soon starts to go mouldy.

Anyone tried the Pitrok Natural Spray? It's fantastic.

AlfredAitchcock · 22/10/2006 19:33

i've never smashed the casing, funnily enough, and i am very clumsy. you should just smash it up, put it in a spray thing and pour water over it. the bionsen one is just bits of salt in an empty spray thing anyway.
and they leave a residue. not one that you can see... but tmi tmi tmi tmiiiiii if you find yourself licking someone who is wearing it they do taste salty around the pit-ular area.

I am on day 4 of using Biosen Deo today (and i keep getting poor dh to sniff my pits just to make sure I'm not imagining the fact that I'm not smelly IFSWIM )

He is now intrigued and wants to know if these ''hippy shit rock thingies'' (as he refers to them!) work on man sweat! Anybody's bloke use them? DH is totally paranoid about smelling sweaty....

RanToTheHills · 23/10/2006 09:27

i tried with pitrok but ended up far too glowy . have now reverted to using dh's roll=on deo (i figure if i don't buy my own that's somehow better!)
I'd love to know if there's an effective, paraben etc free deodorant? anyone know?

ruty · 23/10/2006 14:05

i also bought a Green people deodorant [also from Waitrose] and have it on today. [sniffs pits] Fragrant so far!

notsogummyanymaaargh · 25/10/2006 17:03

hey ruty, how's your pits?

ruty · 25/10/2006 19:08

alright actually. Still using the green people one. Quite impressed. not really sweaty either. Sorry, I mean glowy .
