What do you do in your spare time?

Is it just me or when the kids are out the way and your dh says "have some time doing what you want", why is it that you only do the housework, ironing, washing, cleaning etc.
I feel guilty if I don't do the above, but if I don't, no-one else will. I seem to have not much time for me, and me alone.......how about you MNetters?

Hoover vast bits of dirt from the carpet. Try and make home like it was before dds. Wish I could do more, and wish I had our cleaner back

carla · 13/04/2004 22:37

Spare time???? Pah!

Janh · 13/04/2004 22:37

When essbee says go out she means, of course, with very tall very attractive MEN!

carla · 13/04/2004 22:40

And I stand by my case that Mumsnet is not spare time, it's ME time. Stropp.

Thank God!! you are all just like me. I was dreading reading this thread imagining everyone leading exciting lives in their spare time. Me? I rarely get any but if I do its computer, housework, telly, phonecalls or reading. Whatever happenned to the girl who was never in during the evenings or weekends and only needed 4 hours slepp a night. Hmmm!

Paula71 · 15/04/2004 22:46

DH thinks I have a break when I am doing the ironing, shopping or anything not involving ds twins.

Spare time, whassat?

The few precious hours I grab for myself, I go online and email friends I never have time to phone, I come on here, listen to music, read and watch tv. I don't know if I can keep up the pace of this exciting life!

But if this is what it takes to be a SAHM and enjoy these days with my sons then so be it! I only get this chance once and they grow so very quickly!

jodiemay · 19/04/2004 08:51

I am glad that there are more SAHM's like me, I was expecting people to be manicuring themselves and all sorts. i was just after ideas as my dh works and money is tight, so can't do all the expensive things I'd like to do like manicures. Any ideas on things to do that don't cost a lot of money?

Why not buy a kit and perfect doing your own french manicures, cost about £6ish. I did this recently and have got quite good at it, I got mine from Boots using my points.
Another treat is to go to Lush and get myself a new soap or bathbomb, then pop in Thorntons and get a small bag of Continental chocs, cost about £2:50 in Lush, and £2:50 in Thorntons. Then go home and lay in the bath eating luxury chocs., plus a good book, bought from charity shop or bargin book shop.
You could do this once the kids are in bed if DH isn't around to keep an eye on them.
Another addiction is a word game I play, called"Bookworm Deluxe", I down loaded it free online. Also watching films downloaded off the net.

I spent half an hour the ohter day defluffing the hoover head with an unbent paperclip. It was very satisfying and I strongly recommend it as therapy. Only problem is I started getting a bit obsessive and was thinking of dismantling it to get at any that was left, lucky I couldn't find a screwdriver! Most jobs in this house are done with an unbent coat hanger, the unbent paperclip is a variation on this theme

Ignore the dust and mouldy baked beans on the floor and row row row my boat gently (well Idon't go fast but sometimes it does hurt) down (and against) the stream...and do an OU course. I clearly don't spend enough time with dd...
