Quick money making ideas........

Nutcracker · 09/04/2004 21:22

Right, i need to make between 500 and 700 pounds as soon as possible.
I know that it is probably not possible but has anyone got any good money making ideas.
The only thing i can think of, is to stick half the contents of my flat on ebay or something, and i'm not sure that would make much anyway.

The only other thing i can do is increase my current loan but that will mean bigger monthly payments.
Sorry for the waffeling, but there must be something i can do surely ??

Selling unwanted cds, books and computer games on Amazon is a good way to raise spare cash. Depends a bit how many spare cds you having lying around, tho.

Nutcracker · 09/04/2004 21:35

Ah Amamzon, i forgot about them. I do have some books that i brought of them that they said i can sell back.
Thanks i'd forgot about them.

It is so hard when you have children to earn extra serious cash as this tends to mean day care and daytime work. If you have any one you can leave them with, then you could look at a temping agency and pick up some quick cash that way.

When my sister needed some spare cash, she went through her (extensive) wardrobe and flogged a load of stuff to me and her sister in law...we all benefitted and she made over a #100 quid between us. Saying that, she does have a massive shopping prob. and loads of designer gear in right sizes, but an idea.
Can you do any internet work? There are sites that will pay for jobs to do with all sorts of secretarial stuff?
What about saving money as well as earning it? Look at your shopping bills and see how you can cut back using Tesco Value type stuff and living on those cheaper options. When we are tight for cash, I try to spend a tenner less than normal and take the cash back, collecting it up for a few shops. Worth looking at any direct debit set ups for bills. I know that sometimes you can end up being in credit if the monthly debit is a bit higher than necessary.
Do you do any work nutty?
Look at part time work that you can do in daytime with kiddies - post offices etc. often have signs up for leaflet droppers in the area - fresh air for the children etc. and make a bit of cash..
If you have a car, is it feasible to stop using it for majority of journeys to save petrol, and use public transport?
Look at all your out goings - make sure you spend not one penny on anything other than necessities, so no more video hires, odd choc . bars, no newspapers (look on the tw/net for news etc.).

Ebay is great for making some cash, also look out for any car boot sales in the area. If you have anything of any value, how about an antiques shop?

Look at your loan scenario and think about a consolidation loan if appropriate. You can soemtimes get a bigger loan and pay over a longer time scale so that the repayments are still manageable. Not ideal by any means but could get you out of a tight spot.

StripyMouse · 09/04/2004 21:55

Another thought is to consider why you need the cash and see if it is really necessary for all the pain to get it? Can it wait or can you pay in instalments? Is there a close family member that could help you out with the money for a lower interest rate who won?t give you too much grief/make you feel like they have "one over you" ?
Good Luck

StripyMouse · 09/04/2004 21:57

Ooooh - one other thought? Look through your baby items that you no longer think you need/ can do without and think about selling them to mumsnetters, they can pay postage and packing and you could be doing someone else a faviour as well. The thread about growbags made me think of that one

It is to pay for a deposit on a rented house. We would have the first months rent but not the deposit.
It's just typicall really. Just yesterday we had decided that we would start saving for a deposit just incase anything came up, and then today, we discovered that a house which we had ruled out because it was too expensive has now been reduced by 55 a month.
It is ideal for us too, just around the corner from kids school e.t.c.

Unfortunsatly i don't have much stuff lying around as we always had to get rid of it straightaway because of the lack of space.

Become a woman of the night, sorry, just being silly. If you don't mind me asking have you got a lot of junk you are willing to say goodbye to, as dh had a carboot sale a few years ago and made £90, not quite £700, but can suggest you do a carboot sale, advertise old toys, pushchairs etc in local newsagents, not trying to be funny as am sure you have thought of it already but if you can work evenings Tesco's pay £5 an hour on the checkouts, (used to do 3 6 hour shifts (knackering but worth it for the money), that's £90 a week...£360 a month, for a couple of months...how soon do you need it? Sorry to sound like some sort of know all, it's just am sure there is an answer and would love to help you if can

Nutcracker · 09/04/2004 22:08

Lavender - The only prob with me getting a job in the evenings is that i don't drive.
Plus i really need the money asap if we want the house.
Will bear Tescos in mind though for the future. I don't think i've ever seen them advertise jobs though actually.

look at the interest rate you are paying on the loan - might it be possible to move it to a lower one and end up with very similar payments for a bigger loan? Even transfer it somewhere with a 6 months 0% deal and then move it again after the 6 months are up? (you can do this with credit cards - a friend did it for 3 years, never paying interest and getting clubcard points etc when he moved his loan too! You may well find a good deal with bank loans if you ask around).

mammya · 09/04/2004 22:24

StripyMouse, have you got any links to sites that pay for secretarial work? I would really be interested but so far have not found any.

Janh · 09/04/2004 22:27

nutty, is there anybody in your family/friends, or DP's, who could lend it? Sounds as if you need it too urgently to earn it...but if you could increase your current loan...if you got this house, would it be handier for buses to town etc? Only dd1 used to work in a call centre (in Leeds) and that paid much better than Tesco's/Sainsbo's, £6+ per hour and incentives too.

Good luck, love!

SEXGODDESS · 09/04/2004 22:48

Aldi pay something like £8 per hour for checkout assistants.

I did freelance secretarial work for 3 years about 3 years ago. Most temp agencies recieve about £14 per hour for your work and after their deductions pay about £9 now. It may be worth approaching some local businesses (depending on what type of work you do). For instance if you look in your local paper (Sutton Observer I expect) you could begin by targeting those companies advertising for staff.

Nutcracker · 09/04/2004 22:52

None of my family could afford to lend it us, and would rather drink acid than ask any of dp's family

Do call centres take on people with absolutly no experience though ????
There is an add in this weeks observer for a call centre.

AFAIK dd1 had no experience when she started. She had worked in supermarkets so had dealt with "the public" but no call centre experience. Quite a high turnover I think so they're always needing people. Worth a shot?

3 mobile phone shops pay well too from their ads locally. This is their career webpage. My nephew is working for them and said he liked their attitude (not SELL SELL SELL!) (They have shops within eg Superdrug).

SEXGODDESS · 09/04/2004 23:11

My sis is advertising for a designer/sales person in the Sutton Observer this week but she's a hard cow to work for and will want drawing/sales experience.

SEXGODDESS · 09/04/2004 23:15

What about waitressing - I know it's seriously hard but my pal's daughter used to get ridiculous tips (about £40 a night) at Pizza Hut. The pay wasn't too bad either.

HiddenSpirit · 09/04/2004 23:23

Nutty, go into the council and tell them that you have found a private rented property and ask them for help paying the deposit. They should be able to help pay for this as you are considered a priority for housing with them. The council here was going to help me with deposit/storage if I had found a private tenancy. Not sure if this was just because I was homeless (living with friends) at the time, but always worth a try (and don't necessarily accept no for an answer in the first instance )

SEXGODDESS · 09/04/2004 23:42

I've always fancied being a mystery shopper - how about that.

SEXGODDESS · 09/04/2004 23:52

try this for starters

littlemissbossy · 09/04/2004 23:58

from what i know of call centres (my sister and friend work in different ones), they offer very good training and are often interested in recruiting mums returning to work, can also usually offer part-time working patterns. You should give them a try if you think you'd like to do this.

jodiemay · 10/04/2004 07:39

There is a site called Borntoloaf, and they have the website links to loads of sites that pay for surveys/questionnaires etc. It is predominantly a freebie site, but they have other things to do for making cash! Try it here

Mirage · 10/04/2004 12:37

What about putting up a card in your local post office advertising ironing services? You could do that from home & not have to pay childcare?

Also, round our way, cleaners & gardeners are like gold dust & earn anywhere up to £7 an hour, but that would mean sorting out someone to look after the children.Good luck & keep us posted.

stace · 10/04/2004 18:13

This is an odd thing to recommend to you /........

but if you live in private rented at the moment.....

dont pay your next months rent, the landlord will keep your deposit in anycase therefore you are really using your own money and not having to wait to get your deposit back on your current place, its probably the quickest way to get a substantial sum in!!! Good luck
