Do you say, "WE are pregnant" or "When WE were pregnant"?

For some reason this really really bugs me. Why do people do it? Yes, my children are also DH's children ... but I was pregnant, not him - does he have the saggy skin, the c/s scar, the droopy boobs to show for it? No, he bleeding well doesn't!

I spent all day with someone today who kept saying, "When WE were pregnant" and by the end of the day I wanted to scream

It really isn't like me - I am usually pretty chilled about how other people do stuff .... sigh.

No it sounds stupid.

Even "we are having a baby sounds wrong". I am having ghe baby (well i wish I was but fingers crossed!!).

DH was v. helpful on the alcohol front last time - he drank my share too!!

GreenLumpyTonsils · 26/09/2006 12:29

No. Because "we" didn't have 200 stitches, or two haemorrhages, "we" were not butchered in theatre with no anaesthetic to remove a retained placenta, "we" did not have our nipples bitten virtually off, and "we" do not leak urine when "we" sneeze. It's bollocks. IMO.

Flamesparrow · 26/09/2006 12:36

Nope. I was pregnant. HE was the same size as normal, eating and drinking anything he wanted, and not seeing the new year in throwing up because the baby didn't like peppers...

intergalacticwalrus · 26/09/2006 12:44

I was pregnant.

He just looked it.

Gingerbear · 26/09/2006 13:26

I am also irritated by this 'we' business - like the bloody Royal We or something.

PinkTulips · 26/09/2006 18:35

dp goes into hysterics laughing whne he hears men saying this.... he doesn't even say we're having a baby, it's always 'Pink is/was pregnant' or 'i'm going to be a dad'

tbh, i uaually say 'we're having a baby' (NOT we're pregnant) but he feels even this is inaccurate as in his words 'my job is over, your the one that has to do the rest, i can't take credit for it'

Loshad · 26/09/2006 22:30

pmsl at all this. fortuneatley (sp? why are my kids dyslexic??) DH has never been pg - can't imagine the fuss if he was

kittywits · 26/09/2006 22:54

I don't understand

girlinfrance · 28/09/2006 11:35

Ha! I cringe at all this "going through it all together" tosh. If my H had ever said that I'd be wondering why I was having a baby with such a wet blanket

eidsvold · 28/09/2006 11:38

nope - I was pregnant but dh and I were expecting a baby or having a baby next year.

MrsJohnCusack · 29/09/2006 05:51

oh so glad it's not just me
yes - we're having a baby, but I am pregnant thank you very much. 'we're pregnant' just makes me want to barf

intergalacticwalrus got there first on the 'he just looks it' gag though.

I'm not very good at 'we' fullstop really though - I realise I say 'I' much more than the average smug married

staceym11 · 29/09/2006 06:02

i cant stand the people who say 'we' are pg. i keep telling dh if he wants more after this one he'll have to come up with a way to have them himself, then we'll see whos complaining!!!

snowleopard · 29/09/2006 10:07

Ha ha Intergalacticwalrus. my DP also looked it - when I was about 5mo pregnant one friend said to me "you've just about caught up now!"

helenhismadwife · 29/09/2006 15:19
