Do you say, "WE are pregnant" or "When WE were pregnant"?

For some reason this really really bugs me. Why do people do it? Yes, my children are also DH's children ... but I was pregnant, not him - does he have the saggy skin, the c/s scar, the droopy boobs to show for it? No, he bleeding well doesn't!

I spent all day with someone today who kept saying, "When WE were pregnant" and by the end of the day I wanted to scream

It really isn't like me - I am usually pretty chilled about how other people do stuff .... sigh.

colditz · 26/09/2006 09:31

The phrase makes me want to scream "DON'T BE SO WET!"

colditz · 26/09/2006 09:31

ew. Bad timing!

Twiglett · 26/09/2006 09:32

ROFL

cheers colditz .. need a laugh this morning after DS's cruel psychological mummy-torture

moondog · 26/09/2006 09:33

I've heard (from wet earnest dad in pressed jeans and fleece, whilst unpacking Tesco bags0
'Well we've been trying really hard for a baby for 18 months now..'

Gah! What am I even doing in the homes of such folk????

Kelly1978 · 26/09/2006 09:34

No chance, it is me who spends three months with my head down the loo, followed by six months of peeing every 5 mins and looking like a spotty beached whale. No way would I let a partner try to take any part of that!

anniediv · 26/09/2006 09:34

Trying really hard with extra vigorous shags?? BARF.

SSSandy · 26/09/2006 09:35

When I was pregnant I didn't get emotional, have nausea or go off food/get funny cravings. Dd's father did all of that, so for him "We are pregnant" would have made sense.

2Babies0Bumps · 26/09/2006 09:36

i always said 'i' never 'we'. dh was never preg. he made me preg but never was preg.

Gingerbear · 26/09/2006 09:37

No,
I am not Maggie Thatcher or the Queen.

Tommy · 26/09/2006 09:50

when he has the morning sickness, indigestion, sciatica, constipation, piles and extreme discomfort never mind the carrying it, giving birth to it and feeding it, I will let him say "We are pregnant"

SSSandy · 26/09/2006 10:09

I'm all for men giving birth. I'm happy to massage his forehead and take photos of the baby coming out

3andnomore · 26/09/2006 11:30

lololol...I agree.....not taking anyhting away from my dh here, but if it's about being pregnant it was ME not US....but I suppose some blokes are extremely involved and all that...but I think my dh would cringe if I said something about our pg, lmao...can just imagine his face!

CountessDracula · 26/09/2006 11:31

no

Gobbledigook · 26/09/2006 11:31

No I didn't - it sounds bloody stupid and is factually inaccurate!

Piffle · 26/09/2006 11:32

I'm pregnant
Dp says to people
Piff is pregnant - or we're expecting a baby next year etc

expatinscotland · 26/09/2006 11:33

Chronic sinusitis - and two sinus infections.

Acid reflux so bad I developed an oestophageal ulcer.

Oedema so bad my calves were like cricket bats and pitting w/DD1, and I still have carpel tunnel in my right wrist 9 months after DD2's arrival.

Sciatica.

Diarrhea.

Vomitting.

Forceps delivery.

Urinary incontinence.

A graze on my bits.

'We're' pregnant my ARSE!

LOL!

sandcastles · 26/09/2006 11:52

No I don't

I was pregnant

WE were expecting

It irritates me too!

Bramshott · 26/09/2006 11:57

No no no! BUT, I do think "We're having/expecting a baby" is a much nicer way of telling people. I remember tearing DH off a strip when he told some people first time round by saying "X is pregnant" - made it sound like he had nothing to do with it!

poppynic · 26/09/2006 11:59

Absolutely not. And it really p* me off when dp tries to claim he is suffering because he has to put up with my suffering!!!!!!!!!

SSSandy · 26/09/2006 12:07

only thing I suffered from when I was pregnant was dd's father (which is why I married someone else in the end)

HuwEdwards · 26/09/2006 12:10

Do these same women say - we are having our period???

joelallie · 26/09/2006 12:15

No. Why would I? Bit yucky and sentimental isn't it? Did DH get huge and emotional? No. Did DH get indigestion? No. Did he have to stop doing anything he did before? No. Did he got through labour? No.

I was pregnant. We became parents when DS#1 was born.

Joolstoo · 26/09/2006 12:16

how crass
