What would you do if you had spotted the yobbo who regularly leaves his dog's shit near your house?

I just saw his dog shit and he walked off without picking it up. He allows this to happen regularly so his dog shit is constantly on the pavement.

Given that he's a yobbo and the council can't be arsed, what would you do about this vileness?

put a flag in it, report it it's illegal (i think)

sugarfree · 25/09/2006 19:16

I would be extremely tempted to leave poo(s) on his doorstep in the dead of night.

charliecat · 25/09/2006 19:17

Id bag it, follow him, wait 5 mins then smear it on his door handle.

FrannyandZooey · 25/09/2006 19:19

I would photograph him leaving the dog shit there then report him. It's definitely illegal.

FluffyCharlotteCorday · 25/09/2006 19:20

It's definitely illegal, and I've bothered the council before, but they basically told me that apart from sticking up a few street signs (grey with black writing, so almost invisible - clever, eh?) they can't do anything about it unless the person's name and address is reported (I have no idea of his name and address) and practically filmed as evidence is difficult to come by.

LOL. I'd have to stalk him. (Couldn't really do that as I was going to collect the kids and would have been late)

follow him home. then report.

I despise dog owners who don't clear up. It's sickening.

foundintranslation · 25/09/2006 19:22

crossed posts fcc.

southeastastra · 25/09/2006 19:22

have you asked him about it?

lou33 · 25/09/2006 19:23

there used to be some lads who walked 8 greyhounds at once, they lived in our street, when they moved in there was a huge increase in dog shit outside my house

one day as then dh and i were driving up to the house we saw them letting the dogs do it on the pavement, so i wound down the window and shouted as they walked off "excuse me, you seem to have left your dogshit behind"

they tried to deny it was them and walked off, so h went and knocked on the door, and spoke to this big old matirarchal figure who gave them a bollocking when they got back, and it never happened again

SaintGeorge · 25/09/2006 19:23

I have been know to scoop the poop and deliver to the doorstep of offending owner before now.

No smearing or posting of shit, since I didn't want him to turn it round and get me into trouble. Just returning his property in a nice neighbourly sort of way.

Shame he didn't see it before he stood in it the next morning.

fattiemumma · 25/09/2006 19:23

Take a photo of him and his dog "in the act" then send it to your council.

at the same time print it out on A4 and put them up around the area saying "oi you clean up your sh*t"

hopefully it will shame him into it

FluffyCharlotteCorday · 25/09/2006 19:26

SEA - no I haven't. Was on my way to collect the kids, realised I'd forgotten the car radio bit, and ran inside to get it as the dog shat. Saw him walk very quickly off and when I came out, freshly steaming crap was there where it hadn't been before.

FluffyCharlotteCorday · 25/09/2006 19:27

Also tbh I don't want to talk to him. He knows where I live, he's seen me open my car and he's the type of person who regularly leaves dog-shit in the street - IE a Bad Lot imo. A civilised person wouldn't do this, I'm assuming he's a savage.

If people let their dogs do this near our house, my DH runs after them shouting loudly

"Excuse me, I don't want to worry you, but I think something has just fallen out of your dog!"

He's had 100% success rate at getting them to come back and clean it up - merrily providing carrier bags if required.

There's nothing so sinister as an over-friendly neighbour!

I wouldn't do it myself though - too much of a chicken.

southeastastra · 25/09/2006 19:29

you could try and catch him in the act! or put a sign outside (one of those dog pooing with a cross through it)

southeastastra · 25/09/2006 19:30

oh, i wonder if there is any spray type thing you could use to deter it

Blandmum · 25/09/2006 19:31

Two methods which should only be used if you are feeling exceptionaly brave.

My parents lived on a corner of a terrace street. One chap would walk his dog far enough to let it shit on the corner of the house, and then take it home. In the end my father threw a bucket of water over the guy!

My fathers brother once saw a bloke letting his dog shit all over uncles next door neighbours door step( FFS! doorstep!). Uncle scooped up the shit in a news paper, followed the guy home, deposited it on the blokes door step, rang the beel and asked the guy what he wanted to do with his dogs shit now!

A very ballsy family mine!

lindac · 25/09/2006 19:38

id follow him home and post it in his letter box

Tinker · 25/09/2006 19:41

Loving use of the word yobbo

LieselVonTrapp · 25/09/2006 19:55

This annoys DH and he used to leave DDs nappies on his doorstep in a nappy sack.

MrsMuddle · 25/09/2006 20:06

I had to pick up one from the bottom of my driveway last week so that the kids' bikes and my sister's pram wouldn't trail through it. I was gagging as I did it. Is there something you can spray that keeps dogs away or is that wishful thinking?

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 25/09/2006 20:49

Leave some just on his land, pref on the path. His dog will spend ages sniffing around it! Got any nappies that could be tipped out?

sorrell · 25/09/2006 20:52

Honestly, I'd speak to him. Just be polite and nice and say 'Excuse me, I think your dog just did a poo on the pavement, and I'd hate it to end up in my house or on my children. You know it can make them blind. Thanks'. I honestly think the worst that will happen is that he will blank you, butthe more likely thing is that he will clear it up and ensure his horrible dog craps elsewhere in future. I think your scenario of his deciding to victimise you for ever more is extremely unlikely. Go on, be brave! I wouldn't hesitate tbh, and when have said something similar to people in the park they have always picked it up.
