***Marlow*** do you live there/know it - commuting questions!

we visited today and liked the place a lot.

just trying to figure out the logistics of the commute for dh. don't like the sound of the 'marlow donkey' to change at maidenhead, so wondering whether driving to maidenhead is a better option. are there plentiful car parking spaces at the station? traffic OK between marlow and maidenhead>

or is another town/station a better option? high wycombe?

Wycombe now has a posh new bus station as part of a redevelopment. Still wycombe though!!! Marlow is my favouritest place in the whole world. I've grown up there and my family are still there, only thing I would say is house prices are steep but its worth it. Schools are good, lots of pubs (always important, just don't ever go in the keys [grin) and its beautiful!!! Sigh!!!
Lots of buses as they've got new services etc and for those wanting to commute into london, its actually easier if you drive up the M40 and get the tube in from Ruislip Gardens!!

Hello - just butting in on this message, I grew up in Marlow but now live on the way to Henley near Reading....
Being of an age with young kids I'd plump for Marlow every time if this is a convenient location (we live where we do as dh job is near M4 and I work in the area too). Schools are great in Marlow and in the catchment area, access to M4 for London is great and there is a very good network of young mums (I have friends who live there with young children) - shops are similar in Marlow and Henley. I spend a lot of time in Henley as it is nearer me now and I really like it but (correct me if I'm wrong) there seem to be a slightly higher proportion of retired people in Henley than Marlow (maybe the parents of Marlowers !!)
Drawbacks are of course steep house prices and I know that the train commute from there would drive me mad - but I think there is a little clique of commuters who take the same train every day from that station in Marlow so probably quite a friendly commute!. I used to take the train to London a lot and to be honest I would always drive to Maidenhead on the basis that there were loads more train options there and better to be able to get back to Maidenhead and pick up the car than miss the connections. The Henley trains require you to change at Twyford..but I think that's a good connection. Driving to High Wycombe is a nightmare queueing up that hill - I am also an ex WHS girl (just slightly older than californifamou) so used to spend mornings on the bus up that hill.....driving to Maidenhead you can go the back route off the dual carriageway and its pretty quick.
Have you considered Wokingham ? Although nightmare train to all stations to Waterloo or somewhere near to Reading - quick trains to London and cheaper houseprices?
