What would you do if it was happening at your school.

i don't think i would care. Secondary age kids (where we live) can leave campus and go buy their own lunch, anyway, packed lunches can still be filled with junk foods, what's the difference? If these women have money to spend this way, let them.

Blandmum · 17/09/2006 17:29

Cod, you are over recacting. Just because they are encouraging the eating of fish.

Twiglett · 17/09/2006 17:29

?

youknowyouloveitCOD · 17/09/2006 17:30

i have no diea what oyu are on about

southeastastra · 17/09/2006 17:31

i bet the women wouldn't have done anything if delia had led the school dinner campaign and not jamie o

Blandmum · 17/09/2006 17:36

Seriously? What would I do?

I'd take them into the school canteen and ask them what their problem was.

I would point out that the staff choose to eat there. that the food is a good price, and well prepared with a range of options.

Then I would ask them to leave, and never darken the school gates again.

Actualy they couldn't do what they are doing in our school because of the school layout.

and if they carried on I would invite the press round to see the food.

cece · 17/09/2006 17:43

It will be interesting to see how the Head deals with it.

marthamoo · 17/09/2006 17:44

I would glare at them then be scared they would beat me up cos they look well 'ard.

magicfarawaytree · 17/09/2006 18:29

I would try to encourage as many people as I could to write to them expressing their contempt for thier actions. and I think a few 'wanted for crimes against health and intelligence' posters wouldnt go amiss.

I've only just bothered to read the article "Kids need a bit of fat in their diet - there is nothing wrong with burgers and chips." That kind of sums up why some people need there to be a Nanny watching over their children's diet.

As an aside, surely you need a license to sell food. I'd call the police and get them arrested.

hyacinthb · 17/09/2006 18:42

I'd secretly sneer at them but say nothing. Not being cowardly - but sort of think it is their business, even though they are dafter than daft

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 17/09/2006 18:43

oooh! I think Soupy is onto something! Ask to see and up to date food hygeine certificate and ask whether they have a vendor's license.

SoupDragon · 17/09/2006 18:46

But it's not their business is it? They're not just providing junk food for their own children, they;re selling it to all and sundry.

ssd · 17/09/2006 18:50

please someone tell me what this threads about?

what are these women doing?

Gobbledigook · 17/09/2006 18:51

Probably nothing as they are probably hard as nails

However, they are clearly lacking a few brain cells with it

hyacinthb · 17/09/2006 18:51

Oh are they? I didn't realise that. Thought they were just providing it to their own children. If offering it more widely then that puts a different perspective on it. I'm afraid I'd have to give them a good hiding...

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 17/09/2006 18:52

no no noe, it is their business...

and they should pay tax accordingly...

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 17/09/2006 18:53

oh, does this count as working with children? CRB check, perhaps?

Ashamedshepherd · 17/09/2006 18:57

The school is allegedly supporting healthy eating and pupil are no longer offered junk food on site. they are restriced from leaving the ground at lunchtime - i assume to prevent them from going to buy junk off premises and some kindly women started getting food for their own children and passing through the fence. then they were asked by their childrens friends to get some for them so now they go at morning break, take orders and head back at lunchtime with healthy alternatives to school food - ie fish and chips, fizzy drinks etc. it is allegeded that they say the school attitude to healthy eating is only 'making children picky about their food'. I would be gutted i'm sure if my children said look we dont want a 'bing' meal can you cook some veg !
so far from just corrupting their own children they are deceiving other parents who believe that their children are now eating healthier at school.

Ashamedshepherd · 17/09/2006 18:58

fjb

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 17/09/2006 19:26

Do secondfary schools still let ice cream vans on the premises? I remember living off cider lollies and pink sweets from ours. What was the school thinking?

Blandmum · 17/09/2006 19:29

No, such things went out with liberty vests, and 'clackers'.

Freckle · 17/09/2006 19:51

I don't think they need a vendor's licence as they aren't selling the food themselves, merely acting as agent for the children. Presumably the place where they buy the food has a licence.

They are seriously lacking in grey matter though. And how would they feel if the school came in and undermined how they were trying to raise their children? Do the parents of the other children know that these women are deliberately obstructing the school in their attempts to get the children to eat healthily?? I'd be furious if they were buying stuff for my children.
