yes vine DOES SHOUT. I listen to R4 mostly though and Heart FM/Magic for really crap, easy-driving muzak. I think Maconie is ok, bit of a professional northerner but at least he's not just like the rest, bland bland bland. (I think he was in dh's prog recently about jamie cullum, so think of him quite favourably anyway. dh liked him)

Marina · 01/04/2004 15:01

He's about to do that thing on Northern soul isn't he bundle! Crucially, what did dh make of Jamie Cullum? Wasn't tempted to check the little fella needed changing/winding I hope...

Browbeaten · 01/04/2004 15:03

On Tuesday night I went to see Stereophonics at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust and they had guests appearing - Paul Weller, Ronnie Woods, James Dean Bradfield (sp?) and Roger Daltry. Paul Weller was just exellent and did some Jam tracks - just accompanied by his guitar perched on a stool - I could have listened to him alone all night - swoon.

Tinker · 01/04/2004 15:08

Marina - I think they're all [email protected] now (feeling all defensive towards Jeremy).

Went to see Lambchop last week - hmm, unusual.

bundle · 01/04/2004 15:28

marina, he liked him, had a lot of time for him and really sympathises with him about how much the record company wants its money's worth..

slug · 01/04/2004 15:37

The Franz Ferdinand album is dead good. I got it for dh for Xmas and it's still on high rotation chez slug

Marina · 01/04/2004 15:40

Aw C'mon, Tinker, what was unusual about them? Am having visions of Polyphonic Spree-type matching dressing gowns or something...

motherinferior · 01/04/2004 15:40

bundle just incidentally did you get an email I sent you yesterday?

Marina · 01/04/2004 15:41

Bundle, he just seems such a tiny child to be out there on his own...thought his duet with Katie Melua at the Brits was entertaining though.

Tinker · 01/04/2004 15:45

Well Marina, I had never heard them of seen a picture of them before so I came from that starting point. Exactly. Actually, mentioned them to boyfriend because you'd mentioned them on here, noticed they were playing in Manchester so we went. The songs mostly sounded the same to me but pleasantly quirky and very restful. But didn't like his voice, too, too deep for me. Songs would be better sung by someone eles. But the pianist was funny, told jokes, very dry. There were only 8 on stage, all shy, non-moving musicians but really, really accomplished.

bundle · 01/04/2004 16:06

mmm the melua thing was weird, no chemistry whatsoever. he was originally scheduled to do something with daniel bedingfield who then had that crash in nz. he's very small, had some coats to sit on, on his piano stool at the vortex in stoke newington when we saw him...awwwww.

Marina · 01/04/2004 16:12

Perhaps neither of them have been right through puberty yet and were longing to get back to the sandpit...sorry, I'm being very youthist here.

scampadoodle · 01/04/2004 16:13

I really miss Stuart Maconie on the R2 drivetime slot. It's sad Johnny Walker was ill, but his programme is so awful. He's like an embarrassing old uncle asking about your sex life...

Tinker · 01/04/2004 16:14

Completely agree scampadoodle, put brilliantly. Feel guilty for saying I prefer SM. JW is such a rubbish interviewer as well, so stiff an unnatural.

bundle · 01/04/2004 16:16

melua looks like one of those kids in the edwardian era whose hair has been in rags/ironed to within an inch of its life & she's not allowed to scamper around in the secret garden so is eternally glum

Marina · 01/04/2004 16:17

Oh, so glad I can say it too...felt v. guilty considering what Johnnie Walker has been through, but nearly punched Radio Times when he started blethering on about how it was OK to have (rent-a-jock, the inference was clear) Stuart sitting in but as soon as they got NOEL EDMONDS in he was worried! Excuse me. Since when was Noel Edmonds a threat to anything except good taste and sanity?
Stuart needs his own prime-time show. He's such a great broadcaster.

scampadoodle · 01/04/2004 16:31

I'd forgotten about Noel Edmonds. He was truly dire, wasn't he? & all those people ringing in saying "Fantastic to have you back"! Yes, prime-time for SM, pronto.

I have to say, I find Katie Melua very dull. & all that "I only spent 50 quid on my Brits outfit" nonsense. Yes love, & you looked a mess... Look where that attitude got Alex Perks, or Parks, or whatever 'er name is...

Tinker · 01/04/2004 16:35

Alex who? Katie Melua is deeply irritating - "feeling 22, acting 17" What??? Is there meant to be such a huuuge gap between 22 and 17? Surely she'd be feeling 17 as well if she were madly in love anyway. And hate that cutesy video, looks like she holds mugs with the handle sticking out whilst wearing an overbig jumper

scampadoodle · 01/04/2004 16:46

LOL

bundle · 01/04/2004 16:46

no one is standing up for that Bic person, so she's obviously pants too

Demented · 01/04/2004 17:06

Norah Jones' new album, but it's not as good as her first one.

Funny whoever mentioned Rattle & Hum, I've been playing that the last few days too.

Heathcliffscathy · 01/04/2004 17:22

hello sm : for anyone who likes a little bit of rap now and again, there is a bootleg of the jay-z Black album mixed with the beatles White album that you can download from the internet (bit illegal...) and it is absolutely completely phenomenal if you like either albums or both!

spacemonkey · 01/04/2004 17:50

ooh that sounds good!

Amy Winehouse anyone?? Album OK, but great voice and attitude. Some good lyrics about a footballer's wife as well (song called something like 'f*ck me shoes' if I remember...)

Heathcliffscathy · 01/04/2004 18:30

amy winehouse...have only heard the stuff on the tv ad (like it tho) but did see her on never mind the buzzcocks and she was absolutely superb...totally unselfconscious and v v funny for it!
