So what do you young 'uns think of the Darkness?

spacemonkey · 01/04/2004 14:07

they're a one trick pony imo

Spacemonkey is that the one where each of them contributed the tracks on one CD (but if you've not listened to it you probably don't know)?
I've had a Ron Sexsmith album hanging around for seven years now and have still unaccountably not listened to that. Unexpected present. Supposed to be very talented but his miserable little face on the front always puts me off.

spacemonkey · 01/04/2004 14:07

(not that i'm a "young un"!)

Janstar, worse, much worse. She means platter-spinner Ken Bruce of Radio 2...
Gone off the Darkness a bit since I heard Justin huffing about how mean Glastonbury were to them last year...

lou33 · 01/04/2004 14:10

Darkness are overrated I think. Skulks off.....

Janstar · 01/04/2004 14:12

Not Ken Bruce!!!

I went on Popmasters and he was rude to me.

MrsDoolittle · 01/04/2004 14:17

For any of you Kiwis out there - Bic Runga has got into the top 20 here. Dh bought it for me yesterday.
Has anyone heard of Keane? Their single is great

bundle · 01/04/2004 14:19

I confess it was ken bruce... but if he's featuring neil hannon he can't be all bad, gals

Janstar · 01/04/2004 14:24

No, I like the rest of R2 on the whole, it's just him (emoticon making yuk face).

I even like Steve Wright.

Janstar · 01/04/2004 14:25

Great selection Kiwisbird

spacemonkey · 01/04/2004 14:25

LOVE jonathan ross show on sat morn

he's so much funnier on the radio

OP posts:
bundle · 01/04/2004 14:27

nigel harman was a bit dull & disappointing though

Janstar · 01/04/2004 14:28

I thought he was a bit smug. Pleasant enough but what could he say with JR lauding him as if he were a god?

MrsDoolittle · 01/04/2004 14:36

Dh has got an album called Koop, which I really like.
Alison Goldfrapp,
Katie Melua (although I think she is being over-faced, which is disappointing)
And I have Ed Harcourt in the car.
Strange mix!!

BearintheBigBlueHous · 01/04/2004 14:53

Marina, Scissor Sisters is a bit late 70s/ 80s poppy - Billy Joel meets Elton John and Prince circa "1999", but none the worse for that. There are a few fillers on the album though. Franz Ferdinand is meets White Stripes gone New Romantic and full of really catchy riffs. And brilliant - I'm not sure there's a dud track on there. Going to see them next month HTH

Marina · 01/04/2004 14:55

Bundle, don't you find VINE SHOUTS A BIT TOO MUCH? And what's so special about him that he isn't [email protected] like everyone else? I had high hopes of him but he comes over as a bit of a pillock.
Moreover, is Steve Wright for real when he sends out the strapline, "all material is copyright"? Like I'd repeat any of his jokes (also yuk emoticon).
We are always edgy with JR on the radio because of ds picking up interesting phrases, although I love the show. Why I bother worrying when ds is desperate to watch Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow is beyond me.
Abiding memory of mat leave with dd will be listening to Stuart Maconie covering for Johnnie Walker while getting the children's tea. Happy days. I love Stuart Maconie a lot.

Marina · 01/04/2004 14:56

Thanks Bear. Enjoy FF, the Scissor Sisters are getting excellent reviews for their live shows too. Both sound right up my street.
