Any strange habits!

Do you have any "strange" habits or obsessions.

The only reason I ask is that I have to restrict myself with hand-cream. I just love rubbing it in my hands and once I start I cannot stop.

I let myself buy a tube or pot now and then but once it is finished (doesn't take too long), I don't let myself buy a new one until a few weeks have past.

I just love the feel of it!

Strange I know.

Well, at the risk of sounding like a complete loon...I just can't resist tearing anything with perforations!! I ought to get a job behind the counter at the Post Office - all those lovely sheets of stamps ...

janh · 25/03/2002 17:50

Popping bubble wrap - but that's normal, isn't it - everybody does it, don't they?
(Please say yes, somebody!)

ScummyMummy · 25/03/2002 17:52

Yes, janh! Too too tempting to leave unpopped!

janh · 25/03/2002 17:54

Phew, thanks, scummymummy!

smokey · 25/03/2002 18:51

I have a thing about tangled coat hangers. I find them hard to cope with psychologically. Somewhere deep inside I feel they are bad luck - don't know why.

SueDonim · 25/03/2002 18:59

Smokey, Lakeland Limited now sells a gadget to keep clothes hangers tidy. When I saw it I wondered who on earth would buy one but now I know!

I'm a bubble wrap girl, too. We had stuff with giant cells last Xmas and we all had great fun jumping up and down and popping them. Sad eh??

Enid · 25/03/2002 19:01

I don't like looking at the inside of Crunchie bars. Something about that honeycomb texture sets my teeth on edge.

Now that is weird.

Tinker · 25/03/2002 19:06

Popping the foil on a new coffee jar and then having to remove ALL the foil.

Plus, 2 finger Kit Kats - have to snap them and then place one finger on top of the other and eat this way!

Zoe · 25/03/2002 19:34

I have to return the ceefax/teletext to page 100 before I switch it off.

I can't bear to think of it flicking round while no-one's watching it.

Do I need help?

Ailsa · 25/03/2002 19:40

I know someone that sorts Smarties into their colours before she eats them.

janh · 25/03/2002 19:56

Suedonim, when I had some bubble wrap with gisnt bubbles I kept it on the floor and walked across it every chance I got - kept me amused all day...yes - sad!

cerys · 26/03/2002 08:42

Ailsa - I do that with Smarties! It was OK when I was a kid but I'm in my 30s now

ScummyMummy · 26/03/2002 10:37

Eating jaffa cakes is a very ritualistic experience for me. I eat them in the classic way-nibble round the edges, the pull off and eat the spongey bit, pick the chocolate off and eat it and then let the orangey bit melt in my mouth. Mmmmmmm. Don't like custard creams very much but whenever I accept one for politenesses sake I have to stop myself from pulling them apart, eating the creamy bit and then putting the biscuits back on the plate! Arrested development, I fear.

Azzie · 26/03/2002 11:58

I always wear my rings the same way round (even on my plain wedding ring I can tell by looking at the hallmark if it's the 'right' way round). If there is a difference (however slight) between the earrings in a pair than I always wear the same earring in the same ear. And then there's the light switches - I have to leave the switches on each double switch in the kitchen the same way - both up or both down. Drives dh mad, but I can't help it - I know it doesn't really matter, but if they're not right I just have to nip back and put them right.

jodee · 26/03/2002 12:52

Scummymummy, you are a girl after my own heart! I eat my Jaffas that way too, and always eat a bourbon biccie by pulling it apart and eating the creamy choccie bit first, and I have to nibble every last bit of chocolate off of a Club biscuit, then dunk the rest!

I also don't believe dh when he says he has checked that all the doors are locked/lights and gas fire turned off, I can't sleep at night until I've doublechecked!

clary · 26/03/2002 16:12

I sympathise with Smokey over the tangled coathangers - i really hate it when phone cords get all twisted and I have to untwist them. I especially hate it when someone's twisted MINE up! Is this a bit anal?

whoops - i must really really hate it - didn't mean to post twice

Joe1 · 26/03/2002 19:29

I eat jaffa cakes by tibbling the outside, chomping off the top and leaving the sponge biscuit until last. I also leave my roast potatoes until last and mash them into my gravy. I like dunking digestives into hot lemon.

Eulalia · 26/03/2002 20:09

I can't stand half deflated balloons - I just can't touch them.

I like those giant kit-kats and nibble all the chocolate round the edge first. Not too keen on jaffa cakes. Are Walnut Whips still for sale? I remember a craze for them and the different way people would eat them.

Ailsa · 26/03/2002 21:34

Ooh I love Walnut Whips, yes they're still about, I recently had a maple and pecan Whip - mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Eat the walnut first, then eat the middle and finally the chocolate.

I love digestive biscuit sandwiches - with the biscuits as the bread.

The friend with the smarties is in her 30's too.

I love those chocolate marshmallow things, cos you crack the chocolate first with your thumb, pick it all off and eat it and then suck out the mallow and jam bit off of the biscuit base and then gulp the base down! Yummy.

My other wierd habit is when sleeping, I used to work through the night (in a past life) and got home early in the morning. I had to wear eye blinds and ear plugs to block out light and day to sleep. Must have got hooked cos can't sleep without them now. DH just loves it(!) Still heard the baby cry through ear plugs though!

Hi there. My son has just turned 4. he loves playing games but the problem is that he doesn't like losing. He is very competitive and if there is even a hint that he may lose he will stop playing or cheat so that he does win. Is this usual for his age or does anyone have any tips how I can get him to lose gracefully.

jinna · 27/03/2002 10:19

sorry i wanted to post a new message - but obviously got it wrong. Please ignore
